Confused re: newborn sleeping

Am 35+5 and have a question on sleeping arrangements for our newborn, when he arrives. We have a standard cot which we are going to use with the sleepyhead initially. We have grobags but as they are only suitable from 8.8lbs, if baby is smaller than that when first born which is likely, what do we use when he's in the sleepy head?

I have looked at the gro snug which is the newborn version of the gro bag but it doesn't seem to have very good reviews.

What are the options?

I've not used a sleepyhead so don't know if they have different advice, but blankets should be fine.

I used swaddle blankets with DS until he could break out of them, with another blanket over the top if it was chilly. He was in a Moses basket until 14 weeks then in his cot.

Blankets! Or grow snug. We used blankets, yes the kick them off and it was a pain but after 4weeks he'd grown in to a keeping bag. They don't need to be the weight limit (Tesco do from 7.5lb) just as long as they can't wriggle their head through the hole.

Mine was 6lb so I just swaddled until big enough for grobag.

I had a Grosnug but DS has grown out of it at 9.5lbs so if you have a large baby I don't think they will fit into it.

I loved it, DS loved being swaddled but hates his arms being constricted, Grosnug let's you have the arms free.

I have some swaddle blankets and a cellular blanket to use before mine can fit in the grobags. baby will be in a Moses basket to begin with

Jojo Maman Bebe do sleeping bag type things with long sleeves for newborns. My DS hated being swaddled so we used these. Would post a link but the website doesn't seem to want to work on my phone.

Swaddles or a blanket until they're big enough for the sleeping bag.

Don't buy expensive ones, either - DD got through three bed changes last night! So just basic ones that you can wash almost daily and have on rotation are the best thing.

With DC1 I bought two pricey grobags and thought that would do...this time it's basic blankets and supermarket sleeping bags all the way. The baby doesn't care if it's an "official" Grobag or a Sainsburys one when they're chucking up milk, or leaking out if their nappy, all over it...

I got one of those zip-up swaddles where they have their little arms up by their face, looks cosy! Ds was in sleeping bags from about 3 months, they were all too big before that, he was a bit diddy though.

Yes to just blankets.

My 6 month old still just has blankets, he doesn't kick them off yet or wriggle around too much. I never really got on with sleeping bags.

And I agree with running, cheap ones can be good - getting all our baby stuff out this time, the Sainsbury's ones have lasted the best!

Thanks all! When I say grobags I don't mean the branded ones btw, the ones I have are asda. I just can't seem to find any smaller than 8.8 lbs minimum weight.

Wasn't really keen on swaddling but will look into it.

I have grobag ones (I think) that I got cheap from Argos. These are summer ones and have extra poppers for smaller babies. It's annoying that the thicker ones don't have this that I was given otherwise I would use them from birth!

I swaddled with a large muslin swaddle, and then popped a cellular blanket over the top which I used to lay over the sleepyhead and tuck down around the outside, mainly as it was summer and a bit warmer, plus our sleepyhead was in a crib instead of a cot so when tucking it down the sides it wouldn't budge and I made sure she was feet to foot in it :)

We've no issues whatsoever with the Gro Snug for a newborn. We don't use it in the swaddle mode with the arms covered as the baby is already partially rolling, so needs his arms out. It's very cosy indeed. I can't relax with blankets they just seem to end up over his face. Think I have just been conditioned into the grobags...

DS was not keen on being swaddled so just a sleep suit and blanket worked fine. He did not kick it off too much though he spent a large portion of time sleeping on me!

My DC has always been in a sleepyhead (she was 7lbs when born) and initially just had a cellular blanket over her before progressing to a sleeping bag. Now she has one or the other and is still quite happy. Not sure if it is a conincidence or not, but she is a brilliant sleeper and I would always recommend a sleepyhead to anyone - we also use ours if we go to family or friends for a few hours as it can easily go in the car to be taken out if she needs a nap and the small one is the perfect size for a suitcase if you go on holiday.
