I've got my tummy pierced and don't want to give it up when my tummy reaches bursting point! My GP has told me that it will need to come out... is this true? On ebay when I was trying to get a baby book I'm sure I saw advertised a special one that is designed for pregnant tummies! I like having it there and my dp has said he would want me to have it repierced after all this! Ow! Not keen for obvious reasons! Does anyone have any of their own solutions and experiences? I'd be most grateful!!

I took mine out at about 18 weeks & even though ds is 2 now my tummy's never been in a fit state to expose it again..... But I don't want to depress you. I'm sure you can get special extendable studs to wear in pregnancy, but I think they're made out of plastic. A bit like plastic clothes tags. Bet you could find it on Google.

I took mine out, and haven't bothered putting it back in, but the hole is still there, it didn't close over
From what I remember of my belly after about 6 months, I'd say take it out or watch it tear from hole to hole...

I have a navel peircing and I didn't have to take it out or adjust it at all throughout my 37+5 wk pregnancy with DD. Mine is a ring rather than a stud type and it ended up sticking right out rather than lying flat against the skin in the final 2 or 3 weeks. My bump was very round and very tight (didn't look preg from behind, but was enormously rotund at the front ) and it was fine.

I think you'll have to play it by ear and take it week by gestational week !

Piffleoffagus · 21/05/2004 21:23

it has to come out, my best mate left hers in and it went septic and she now has a humungous scar and it looks like a cigar burn. And she had an extendable clip too...#
It caused her agony and she was limited in what antibiotics she could take for the infection which is why it took weeks to clear up...

NomDePlume · 21/05/2004 21:23

Apols for typos, have had wine !

Piffleoffagus · 21/05/2004 21:24

i meant to say.. surely it would have to come out...
sorry marmish behaviour LOL

Samcj, just wanted to let you know what I was told; fine to stay in place if not uncomfortable however if you are planning or have to have a c-section has to come out as some of the equipment used and the metal are not a fantastic combination and it can lead to scarring. Mine came out and haven't got the tummy I had previously so not gone back in!

sweetkitty · 21/05/2004 22:09

Took mine out at about 18 weeks it was poking through all my clothes

Plan on getting it repierced after (if my stomach ever returns to a decent state) I've had it repierced once before and it doesn't hurt as much as the first time.

Think you just have to do whats comfy for you.

HiddenSpirit · 21/05/2004 22:15

Took mine out as soon as I found out I was pregnant because I thought I had to. Then spoke to neighbour upstairs who said she kept hers throughout with no problems. Wasn't too happy after that as I only had it done 2 months before I found out I was preggers

Haven't got round to getting it redone, want to tone up a bit first.

popsycal · 21/05/2004 22:16

my sis was fine right up until the last minute when she took it out as she felt she ought to

Bronze · 22/05/2004 11:30

Last time I took mine out before my first scan because I thought I would have to and it luckily it didnt close up (it had been pierced for about 10 years). Then I heard that people didnt take them out so decided not to this time but I went for my 12 week scan yesterday and was asked that I would remove it before the next scan. I would say take it out to be on the safe side and if youre worried it will close up then use one of those plastic pregnancy bars. That way you cant lose.

WOW, I'm just so impressed by how many of you have had flauntable bellies!

misdee · 22/05/2004 19:38

when i saw the title of this thread i was thinking 'omg someone has had their babies belly button pierced!!'

anyway to answer the q, if u can get a plastic pregnancy bar to put in try that and see how it goes. if it starts to go manky or anything take it out and get it resone after baby is born.

NomDePlume · 22/05/2004 19:48

ROFL MI ! I wish mine was flauntable. I just never took mine out and I'm keeping it in now to remind myself that I must do something about my paunch ! Sort of a surgical steel post-it, if you will !

Samcj · 22/05/2004 21:44

Don't want you to get the wrong impression! My stomach has not been flauntable for a very long time, had this done at the toned and flauntable age of 18! But I do still like it and agree with NDP about the post it note, a lovely way of putting it! Oh well, thanks for all your advice, very helpful, I'll just play it by ear then and see how things go! Thanks everyone. x

had to take mine out - it got so sore - and never got it done again as I knew I wanted another babe soon after, now after 2 pg's I am in no state to put it back in!!!!

kalex · 22/05/2004 22:05

LOL Misdee, I thought exactly the same.

kbaby · 23/05/2004 10:45

Hi,
I had mine pierced and was told that you need to buy a plastic bar which is longer than normal. Even my midwife told me the same thing. I cant see why it would need to be taken out before a scan.
I took mine out as once my belly button started to pop out it just didnt look right. Im hoping to get it redone if the hole hasnt closed up. Thats if my stomache looks half decent after the baby.

mieow · 23/05/2004 11:02

I had my belly pierced when I was 17, wore my belly bar throughout 1st pregnancy, with 2nd and 3rd I wore a plastic bar that I brought from a hippy shop in town. I didn't go full term with any of my babes so I was lucky that it didn't stretch too much and it still looks sexy

dinny · 23/05/2004 11:32

I took mine out just before first scan with dd1 as I thought I'd be told to anyway. Really wish I'd used plastic belly bar as belly button never popped out and I didn't go to full term. Miss it! Will maybe get it done after this bub - if I can face it.
