She is 38 weeks pregnant with her first child, and has had an agonising headache for a couple of days. There is a tiny bit of protein in her urine, but her blood pressure is fine.
The hospital said she can go home without further obs, they did listen to the baby and its fine. I am still worried about pre eclampsia, there live a good 45 mins from hospital.
She also has diabetes. Can you be beginning to develop pre eclampsia and still have normal bp, she seems to have two out of the three warning signs, but I don't know enough about it I guess.

I had an agonising headache for 24 hours before my baby was born this time last year - I was physically crying with the pain. I spoke to my midwife at the time and was advised to take paracetamol and phone her the next day if it still hadn't gone away - I didn't have to do this as I went into labour in the meantime!!! However when I got to the hospital my blood prssure was raised so they kept me in even though I was only 2 cm dilated. Not sure about the diabetes link etc, but hope this is of some help

Thanks firststeps, its a worry. From googling it, it seems that you have to have the high bp, which she doesn't have, but still concerned. This is their fist and long waited for baby.
Anyway, the news is, that they have seen another dr, who is sending them to the local maternity unit for more obs, so I do feel a bit less worried now

I think that your BP can go up very abruptly with pre-eclampsia - good that she's getting some more obs done to make sure everything's OK.

liathoho, thats what I wondered about, and thought it a bit stange that they were sending her home, and if her bp suddenly went sky high, how would she know, she already has the agonising headache.
Fingers crossed, tbh, I hope they keep her in.

what is her bp like normally? my normal bp is v low and i was admitted with PE with a "normal" bp, just coz it was odd for me. had vv bad headaches and fluctuating protein too at 38w

Overrunderthemistletoe · 26/12/2006 16:13

I don't know merry, they are out of contact now so cant' ask.
I am so glad that this second dr took it a bit more seriously. They have been sitting in hospital waiting rooms since 9.30am this morning, fgs, and only now has a decision been made to send them to maternity unit, before they were just having to wait for pain meds for hours.

its awful. i was about to be sent home and i asked them to check my urine coz i was sure something was up, and i had 5+. the next day i had a trace, the day after i had 4+ i was so swollen and my bp and protein varied thru the day

liatHoHoHo · 26/12/2006 16:20

Your poor SIL what a way to spend Boxing Day. Hope it all turns out OK.

Overrunderthemistletoe · 26/12/2006 16:35

Thanks for all your concern, now that she is at the maternity unit I feel much better, and I think they feel safer too.
I did advice them to go straight to maternity unit this morning, but never mind!
I'll let you know anyway, when the baby does arrive.
