Scan at 6+4

Hello all, I'm booked in for a scan tomorrow as I've been having some bleeding. I'll only be 6+4 so assuming it will be a transvaginal scan as so early? Just wondering if anyone could share their experiences of similar early scans. Also do I need a full bladder if they're not looking through my tummy? Thanks for any help X

It depends on where you have your scan. I had early scans at 6+4 and at 7 weeks (different pregnancies) and both were abdominal. They did warn that they might need to do TV if they couldn't see enough but tried abdominally first and got a clear enough picture.

i had one at 6+3 with this one, (currently 16+5) went with a full bladder and they saw baby fine with heartbeat. (after a big bleed) go with full bladder first, then if they cant see properly, you can always go for a wee and have internal scan straight after x good luck x its a shit scary time having a scan after a bleed, doesnt always been bad news. x

I have just booked in for my 6+2 scan as I have had a previous ectopic and I asked if I should have a full bladder or not, she said to have a "comfortably full" bladder as they'll try a tummy scan first. Good luck, I hope it all goes well.

I have also had early scans. At 5+3 and around 6 weeks. Both were internal as I had had previous ectopics so the scans needed to be as clear as possible. There was a toilet at the hospital and I was asked to empty my bladder beforehand. The scan wasn't painful but did get a bit uncomfortable at times.

I went at 6+2 due to be light spotting and they told me to have a full bladder. They did a normal scan and could see the pouch but not the baby as it was so tiny. I was the very upset (first pregnancy) and then had to empty bladder and had an internal scan which showed everything was ok and heartbeat etc and was then discharged from epu. I'm currently 9 weeks now and on normal pathway for 12 scan. I think as others said I'd go with full bladder them can empty if they say so. Good luck

It will probably be tv as aswell as checking baby they'll also look for the cause of the bleeding good luck hope everything goes well

I've just had one at 8+5 and it was trans vag. I had to empty my bladder before.

Thinking about it I had to empty my bladder for a tv scan at 22 weeks too.

It's not as bad as it sounds. They put a condom and lube in the probe and it literally goes in about an inch, I didn't feel a thing, no discomfort at all. Good luck!

I've just had an early scan today. They went TV and everything looks perfect and baby's heart was seen beating. It was such a huge relief (we have been ttc for 2 years), I cried! They estimated a few days less than I was expecting at 6 weeks + 2 days but baby was 5mm and the nurse was very happy.

Oh and I had to have an empty bladder. Good luck, I'm sure everything will go well for you. :)

I had row around this stage and they both put me earlier than I thought (almost a week) but by my 12 week scan baby was measuring at what I had originally thought. So don't worry about the dating!

Had my scan today, all was fine with the baby and saw the heart beat :)

Woohoo! Did you know that if you see a heartbeat at this stage, your odds are better than 97% that you'll be bringing home a baby later this year!

I, too, went in for an early scan after some scary bleeding (and two miscarriages 6-7 years ago and no luck getting pregnant since until this pregnancy). I kept a 6 second clip of my baby's heartbeat and for the next 6 weeks, until I could hear him on my cheap home doppler, I must've watched that 6 second clip on repeat a hundred times a day!

Now I'm at 37 weeks and getting my home ready for a homebirth. In a few weeks when you feel like "where did my symptoms go" for a few days, try not to stress too much about it. Remember that heartbeat and remember what seriously good news it is!

womb that's such a lovely message, thank you. I could definitely see the flickering :) I'm currently feeling extremely sick so no doubt at all now that things are happening. I'm so grateful to the NHS and the staff at the epu and urgent care unit, they were all so lovely and reassuring too
