Did your sweep work?

Hi just had a sweep (40+3) this morning. I was 1-2cm dilated. I am going to have another on Tuesday and if nothing happens induction the following Monday. Just wondered how many of you have had sweeps work for going into labour? I had 2 maybe 3 with my first child and none of them worked but I also was not dialted at the time so maybe that makes a difference? Also how did you feel afters? I don't feel any different!!

I had a sweep with my 3rd baby (I was a week overdue) I went into labour that very same day
Good luck x

I had 4 and nothing happened (neither did the induction) good luck op, fingers crossed you have a baby shortly.

Had 1 with DS, no effect (had him 6 days later). I was 1cm dilated at the time and he was engaged but not fully engaged. I think I was 4 days over at the time. Didn't hurt much - like a lengthy smear test.

Having 1 on Monday with this DD which will be on my due date. I have little faith as she's not engaged and there aren't many signs yet but given it didn't hurt much last time and I'm desperate to budge her, I'll give it a go.

Got my second sweep tommorow and getting booked in to be induced on Thursday I think my midwife said. Just hoping this sweep works and everything else happens naturally (fingers crossed.)

Hiya everyone just a quick update.
Had my second sweep today and she said my cervix is nice and soft! Starting to feel some aches and pains from this sweep.
Booked in for an induction for Wednesday morning (nervous/excited) hopefully she makes an appearance beforehand.
Midwife also gave me some aromatherapy on a plaster which is currently stuck on my tshirt (getting sick of the lemon smell) and also some massage oil for bump which I need to start using tommorow.
All in all I should have my little girl here by the end of the week if not before.

Awwww all the best for when it happens Flowers

emm2016x · 01/02/2016 21:06

HooseRice thank you so much. Really did want her to come natural as in im in bed and my waters break and everything happens at the spur of the moment rather than it being planned as such. Sad
Either way as long as she's healthy and happy that's all that really matters.
Thanks again Thanks

I had my sweep done at 40+3 didn't feel anything till 10pm that night (this was a wednesday) woke up with bad cramps and all day Thursday and Friday I had the biggest mucus plug known to man come out of me. 12:25 on Saturday morning water's went and 4 hours later my ds was with us.

BabyHaribo · 02/02/2016 10:15

Yes

Cervix was thick, high and not dilated at all at time of sweep.

DD arrived the next day!

emm2016x · 02/02/2016 10:23

Congratulations both of youThanks
Im booked in to be induced tommorow morning since my sweeps didn't work. Had no pains out of the ordinary so looks like she needs a bit of help coming into the world. Not exactly how I wanted it but whatever's best for DD Smile

What is a sweep? I'm basically imagining that the midwife sticks her hand up there and jiggles it about? Shock

applecatchers36 · 02/02/2016 20:26

No had to be induced ...

oneconfusedchick · 02/02/2016 21:02

Strawberry that is pretty much it!! Google it for exact science though :p

I googled it, for once it actually sounded less bad then what I imagined :)

emm2016x · 05/02/2016 22:00

I was quite active on here about my sweep but just thought I'd let you all know I gave birth via c-section at 5:11 this morning after 26 hrs in labour. Long and hard road but definitely all worth it now im laying beside the love of my life. :)

messyjessy7 · 05/02/2016 23:54

Congratulations! Just found this thread and had to read to the end to see if you'd given birth. Well done!

clank2 · 06/02/2016 15:29

I had 3 last time, none worked

SewSlapdash · 06/02/2016 15:51

I can't say I think they did. I reckon I had 3 before I lost my plug, then a very vigorous one the following day after stop start contractions (not that I was warned of it or asked for consent Hmm). Baby still didn't arrive for another 36 hours +.

I think I might decline them this time too (currently 9 weeks).
