38 week growth scan...how accurate?!

Hi there,
I had a growth scan today at 38+3 as my last midwife measurement showed static growth. Everything was fine (I don't think the midwife measurements are all that accurate with the tape measure!) and it was really nice to have the chance to see my little one again!

The sonographer said he is currently 7lb11oz which she said is perfectly normal but to me sounds massive considering he could be in there another 4 weeks if I go overdue!! My daughter was 8lb1oz so I was never expecting a tiny baby but I am scared he will be over 9lb...

i was just wondering if anyone knows how accurate these scans are or if anyone knows how much weight a baby can put on over next few weeks etc.
At the end of the day I am really happy that all is well, and glad all the baby clothes I have bought are not tiny sized though! :-D

In my case they weren't accurate, though unfortunately they had under estimated...said just over 7lb and I ended up with 8lb8oz.

They're notoriously inaccurate for weight. I had one at 37 weeks and they said if Dd went to term she'd be 10lbs or over. She was 8lbs3

They estimated 8lb 2 he was born 2 days later at 7 12 so not far off

8lb13 at 39 weeks. Came out a week later at 7lb8.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! Guess I shouldn't worry too much! :-D

I had extra growth scans with dc1&2. They were pretty inaccurate. They predicted a whopping baby both times. Mine were 8lbs13 and 8lbs so not massive at all! Take it all
With a pinch of salt.

With ds I had a scan at 40 weeks and was told he was not a big baby - he was 10lb 12 - in my experience they are not very accurate!!
