Can I wear control top tights/'magic' knickers?

I know this is a very daffy and vain question BUT I am going to a party on Christmas night where my very slim and beautiful, and, frankly, horrible, sil is going to be. I am 13 weeks currently and have not put on any weight but my tummy protrudes a bit more. Can I wear control top tights/scuba knickers to hold in the chub? I am not concerned about discomfort, more if I will crush the baby or summat?

Thank you!

you can;t crush the baby......but you will feel very uncomfortable!

once the uterus starts to rise out of the pelvis, you are going to look pregnant!

why canlt you show off your baby body! does your sil not know?

doggus · 21/12/2006 20:11

No the sil knows, the problem is I don't have any sort of a bump, more just a roll of extra flab. I have a Ghost dress which is bias cut, if I had a little bump it would look fab but it currently makes me look flabby! I would much prefer to actually LOOK pg!

stick your tummy out more!

the thing with the control top knickers etc..they redistribute the extra round the top of the waistband etc....!!

try the tights, in a bigger size, so they pull quite far up!

Do you know, I hadn't actually considered just jutting my tummy out? That's a good idea. It's that weird stage where you don't look pg and maternity clothes swamp me. They should make 'beginning of the second trimester' clothes....

arch your back out and stand like a pregnant woman, stroke your tummy a lot and refuse alcohol loudly !

ask if there is any coal to eat (faddy stuff) and double stick tummy out..then say oh i really fancy a pickled egg or something else like that. Just enjoy.

paulaplumpbottom · 21/12/2006 22:05

I inagine its not as bad as you think and you couldn't do better than ghost to flatter an extra bit of weight.

marymillington · 21/12/2006 22:08

may i suggest mama spanx maternity tights?

like magic knickers they hoik in your bottom and do the same for your bump, support it and make it look smooth and perky. they're about £18 but i was very impressed.

paulaplumpbottom · 21/12/2006 22:14

I have also heard great things about the spanx maternity tights

doggus · 21/12/2006 22:28

Ooh I am going to get those spanx maternity tights immediately. Has anyone ever tried the spanx panties, the ones that are so difficult to get on, that you can't pull 'em down when you go to the loo? They have a little hole you have to pee through. DH got terribly excited, thinking they were going to be some Ann Summers like split crotch knickers...and then he saw me in them

Giving up my spanx will be the worst part of my pregnancy, I never leave the house without them.

doggus · 21/12/2006 22:33

Seriously? I am in awe, I would look so much better if I wore them every day, they take half a stone off I reckon. I just find then excruciating, you must have got used to them!

They are hard to get on but once they are on I find them really comfy, I hardly know they are there unless I am hovering precariosly over the potty so as not to get them wet.

itsazoohere · 21/12/2006 22:57

Sorry to butt in-can I ask where they came from? They sound fab! Weird, but fab.

paulaplumpbottom · 21/12/2006 23:00

You can get them a figleaves.

itsazoohere · 21/12/2006 23:07

Thanks! So far have made do with cutting waistband of skinny tights.

doggus · 21/12/2006 23:09

when i was 5m preg with ds1 i got married and wore a support body under my dress. it made my bump nice a streamlined so the dress didnt cling anywhere. he certainly didnt object from within. the uterus is a strong muscle and will protect the baby.

paulaplumpbottom · 21/12/2006 23:23

My best friend worse her support body all the way through her pregnancy to. I think it would feel nice and supportive.
