Pain "down there"

Hi all

I'm pregnant with my first and am 12 weeks tomorrow. For the last 4 weeks or so I've been getting a lot of pain "down there" and wanted to know if anyone else gets anything similar. I've read about lightning fanny but that has been described as a stabbing pain and what I have is different.

It's hard to describe but it's like an ache on the surface of the top flat bit (ie the bit you'd see if you look at yourself in the mirror if that make sense!) rather than an inside pain. It's not there all the time but is quite bad when I move my legs or change the position I'm sitting or lying in. If I've been sitting for a while then move my legs it's quite a sharp, painful ache for a while and then will stay while I'm walking but will get a bit less painful as I walk more.

Has anyone else had anything similar?

Sounds like Pelvic pain or SPD.. I have SPD and I have aches where you get period pains..Do you get it when walking up stairs?

Would SPD be right down there or slightly higher up? It's literally there in the flat bit before it splits into lips (sorry if TMI!). And it's also limited to that area only.

I get it generally when moving my legs so yes going up the stairs too and I have noticed if I suddenly lift my legs it gets quite bad for a few moments and can make me gasp or cry out loud involuntarily. I tried to raise it with my midwife at my first appointment but she didn't seem to get it. She kept saying that if it feels like bone pain in my hips then to ask for physio but I kept saying it's nowhere near my hips lol! Mind you, this is the same midwife that when going through my health history and coming to the "have you ever had an STI?" question asked me what STIs are!!

Sounds like where mine is...With same kind of symptoms as me.
Mine is no where near my hips because it's actually your pelvis not your hips.
I would ask to see a physio although mine was useless and I found more information online but it's good to make them aware of you incase it gets worse and you need crutches.

RE the STI question, I know! My husband and I looked at each other in disbelief when she read the question then looked at us and asked "what is this STI?" She also forgot to print off the form to do my bloods for blood group so now I have to have that done when I go for my scan next week!

Thanks so much MrsGlam. I've been reading up on SPD and I think you are right and it is probably that. It's painful but manageable at the moment so I'm really hoping it doesn't get worse!

Yep! I'm hoping we see a different midwife on our next visit!

Yeah I have this too!! I'm pretty sure it is SPD! I had it with DD and have it again now!! There isn't much you can do for it but there are websites that offer ways of helping ease the pain. I hope it doesn't get much worse, it should go after you have the baby.

Few little tips from me -
Best thing ever if to get a pregnancy support pillow for when you are in bed..It's amazing!
Also if you put a spare duvet between the mattress and the bottom sheet that will help..No idea why but it's awesome.
Do stairs one at a time.
Don't be afraid to take paracetamol if you need it.
I find pushing supermarket trollies hurts so get someone else to push it or shop for you.

Sure it isn'tt round ligament pain? I was getting that mostly on my right in the first 20 or so weeks and still get it occasionally. Mostly felt it when moving suddenly - so getting up from standing, sneezing, coughing etc. It's where the lower tummy muscles are stretching and normal.

Getting up from sitting or lying down I meant of course ;)

Thanks for this thread. I've been having pain like this for nearly a week now and on googling sounds similar to spd

Mine is exactly the same and it is SPD. It's worst for me turning over in bed, getting up, putting socks and shoes on etc. Sometimes it hurts a bit when walking if I go too fast.

Pilates is really helping me, maybe have a look on YouTube for some exercises. The best tip I am told is to keep your legs together as much as you can! You're unlucky to have it so early on, mine didn't start until around 32 weeks.
