Grooming!!!

Hi all I'm 22 + 4 and wondered if there were any good tactics for doing your own toes?

It's taken me ages to clip my toes this evening and dh thinks I am suffocating the baby in the bending process!!!

Secondly my bikini line has seen better days I have heard using creams such as veet could harm the baby so I am currently au natural. So anyway because I have naturally Afro hair, shaving bikini line is not an option as I end up with in grown hairs (painful and not a good look). So any grooming tips will be much appreciated. Xx

I'd recommend seeing a beautician, if you have the time and budget. She can wax your bikini line for not much money (unless you want a more thorough job like a Brazilian or Californian!) and also clip/paint your toenails.

If I have a Shellac pedicure I can then ignore my toenails for 2-3 months at least and they still look great. I don't think my toenails grow very fast though! If you're like me, you'd only need to do that once before giving birth. Waxing lasts about a month for me. Hope this helps.

Using hair removal cream doesn't do any harm. There's been many discussions on here about it lately.

Fair enough, I've been waxing for as long as I can remember and I don't feel a thing, but pregnancy is probably not the time to experiment :-)

You need a battery powered trimmer. Just trim the whole lot so it's shorter - you'll feel much cleaner and tidier without reaching for the razor. You don't really have to watch what you're doing you can just be careful then look in the mirror after and go back for any missed bits. I'm 33 weeks last time I groomed I did this and I'll be doing it again.

The voice of bitter experience tells me that attempting any removal increases risk of badly ingrown hairs, abscesses and infections.

Last pregnancy I did a DIY job it turned nasty, with all the extra blood, weight and body fluids down there.

Ended up getting the abscess on my labia surgically removed at 34 weeks with no anaesthetic. I didn't have much choice as needed to be in/out of hospital to care for my other child. Plus GA carries a risk to unborn child. But anyway having that sod removed was more painful than labour!!

This time I've taken to trimming it very very carefully. Don't go mad apparently some hair down there helps you prevent infections. Yep we preggie ladies are very susceptible to UTI, especially when baby squashes everything out of shape.

I was told by the hospital staff the only people who care about the hair are the women and their partners. I think they see a lot worse during birth tbh.

Ask DH to do your toes for you would you trust him with a lady shave though....!?!
