Baby clothes - where to shop?!

It's time to sort out some clothes (due in a few weeks) and I'm at a loss as where to shop. Plain baby grows are fine but struggling to find nice cardigans and 'baby' things that aren't terribly gender specific (the sheer vileness of the pinks out there make me feel sick and the blues are all a bit 'oh look I'm such a real man') or just awful. I have a real hatred of Next and Mothercare but don't know where to go for nicer things. Petit Bateau will be visited in the week but apart from that- help!

I'm not a massive snob I promise, I just can't find anything I really like online (that is easy to get! There are some lovely European bits but they'll wait until it is older) or in real life. There must be lots of hidden gems out there but having had no children or contact with people with kids I've not been let into the inner circle of knowledge. Help!!

Other than that I found asda and primark pretty good. I didn't find out what I was having so bought mostly unisex clothes along with a few "boys" things. Always worth checking the boys sections, my 8yo niece still does!

John Lewis have got some great unisex stuff with zebras and elephants - colours include yellow, turquoise and grey, in dungarees, baby grows, cardigans, little Jersey trousers and tops. they look much better IRL than online, I was in there yesterday and don't know how I resisted! I'm only 24 weeks so tying to hold off!

Mama Jojo Bebe? Although even some of the patterns are quite colour specific.

I had the same problem here. My mum knitted some cardies in neutral colours. Otherwise it's just luck of the draw: keep looking. I've got a couple of plain white cardies from mothercare, one from an independent and then odd bits from h&m, m&s etc. Mine are boys, and I have quite a lot in navy and brown which would be fine for a girl.

I love Scandinavian design. Thanks for that website. There are some great bits on there. I'm not overly touchy about gender specific, it's more the sheer screaming bloody awful pink and fluffy everything. There are a few good Dutch sites too and of course uniqlo for basics.

I'll have a look in John Lewis too. Trying to stay away from supermarkets and Primark as it isn't my thing (nothing wrong with it at all! Please don't get me wrong. It just isn't me at all)

I may just be a little hormonal as the family keeps buying stuff (clothes and toys) that I hate and I feel I have no choice what to put my own baby in and feeling a bit of a outsider in my own life. I'm yet to buy the baby anything I've chosen myself and it's made me a bit sad today.

It's worth trying nearly new sales for scandinavian type stuff. I'd also try supermarket ranges for neutralish brights - their ranges come and go but Sainsburys is normally OK.

H&M have suuuuuch cute stuff at the mo, I spent a lot online last night but most of DS' stuff is charity shop from my mum and grandma; eBay bundles (most of his good brands are from eBay); or M&S. Next are hit and miss IME but when they hit they're ace.

Jojo Maman Bebe is my go to store for DD and DS. It's generally great quality too.

John Lewis is also good.

Mamas and papas can be good. Watch their sizing though; they are on the smaller end versus JL and M&S who are more generous.

And Sainsburys can also be great. (And supermarkets aren't normally my thing either)

I don't tend to shop in one place, if I like something from John Lewis or from primark then I buy it.
Tbh unless you keep baby in white (which most of my babys have been very sick so really not good) then the non gender specific stuff is pretty few and far between.
I have hand knitted cardis that were very kindly made for baby.
Yellows,whites,greens,I have got some pink ones as baby is a girl.
Also look on eBay there might be stuff on there that appeals to you.
Just think baby really won't care what they wear, we are more bothered lol.

My friend works at sainsburys and has got my (unborn) dd some lovely sleep suits in red and navy designs. Some are floral but not 'girly'. I've got an irrational hatred of pink (probably from being forced into dresses and pink as a Tom boy child myself) but h&m have some lovely bright colours and grey seems to be popular.

I've got some stuff for dd from the 'boys' section of next and mothercare because they were just different colours.

I second John Lewis, they do a great multipack of brightly coloured vests. (With no sparkles or trucks!)
And joules also do some really cute leggings with animals on the butt.

I second Sainsburys and Asda. I'm not usually one to buy supermarket clothes (sorry to sound a bit snobby but it's more about quality) but I've been really impressed with Sainsbury's especially and they have some lovely idea patterns at the mo. When they do their 25% off its incredible value and you gain Nectar points too.
The thing I found frustrating is the varying sizes, so make sure you check the weight rather than the title. AsAsda 'new born' didn't fit until 8 weeks whereas M&S 'new born' fitted from new born.

I'd reconsider Mothercare - they have a lovely range of retro styled fairly unisex clothes called Little Bird that I love.

I've also got some good basic vests in multipacks, bright reds, orange, turquoise. Look great on my DS.

The scandi brands are excellent but expensive. I bought loads when I still getting paid, maternity pay can't quite stretch to it.

Polarn O Pyret is good too.

I got a load of luminous t shirt multi packs for my boys (toddlers) from asda last year with pink tops last yr, they're v good. H&M sizes are awful. TK Maxx can be good too. Admittedly primark was baby clothes only

I appreciate the suggestions but I really do hate very obvious high street stuff and don't mind paying for other stuff.

The sizing thing is terribly irritating across the board. It just doesn't make sense!

Ah, I thought you were just after things that were unisex.

If you've got lots of money then the scandi brands, molo, mini rodini etc are the way to go.

You'll still probably bump into people in the same outfit though!

I like Vertbaudet, have got some really nice outfits for DD from there. Sainsburys is very good value, as is George at Asda.

One thing to consider is that new baby clothes are only going to get thrown up/weed/pooed on, and last for a matter of weeks before being outgrown, so I personally wouldn't spend the money on stuff from places like Next, Jojo Maman Bebe, John Lewis, even if some of their stuff is really nice.

I was also given clothes for DD's that I didn't really like. Tbh, I just kept the tags on and regifted
