Need advice

I had my 20 week scan on Thursday just passed. When I was in the scan room, my baby wasn't doing what it was told as usual. The women who was doing the scan didn't ask me to move or cough or the usual stuff. Instead she rattle the scan thing about my tummy. Not a comfortable experience. Since my scan I have been feeling rubbish. I have constant really bad indigestion. And just a sore tummy. Not sure what to do?

How hard did she rattle it? Do you have a bruise?

I had this and I can't say it even crossed my mind to be bothered. DH and I just laughed. She was bouncing the ultrasound up and down and poking my sides saying come on baby, shift over.

Yeah this is really common. I felt a bit battered after my last 20 week scan as they had to be quite rough to get all the measurements.

Don't think there's much they can do. It might have made you a bit sore but you'll recover. The indegestion will just be a coincidence I imagine.

Yeah happened to me to- she was prodding baby's head to get him to move his hands from in front of his face. She jiggled it really quite hard.

I had this. Some parts were so uncomfortable I thought she would break a rib or something but they have to take the measurements of everything which can be difficult at times.
I think that maybe weight could have something to do with it (just my opinion so may not be true) but I carry more weight than I should (I'm a size 12 so not massive but carry it around stomach and hips) so I think for me they have more that they need to get through to reach baby which I think may mean they need to press harder also?

The 20 week scan is quite a different type of scan from your 12 week scan (or from any growth scans that you might get later on). it is to check for fetal anomalies, and it requires lot of concentration on the part of the sonographer, who will often have to manipulate you/ the baby in order to be able to get the correct measurements and readings. It can be quite hard and stressful at times, and you might find the technician is less chatty than they were at your dating scan- it's a serious job and sometimes it leads to them having to break some terrible news to prospective parents about the health of their baby so there can be very much a 'no nonsense' approach taken to it. It's a shame that you are feeling sore though- if you are still feeling strange then you should call your midwife for advice.

I totally agree with city.

If it hadn't been for much jiggling, squashing and pushing the sonographer wouldn't have picked up the tiny brain anomoly that lead to my dd2s diagnosis (many other things picked up st kings with foetal specialist and better scanning equipment but referral wouldn't have been made)

It can be pretty brutal though. Warm bath and some hot water bottles.
