I'm 38 weeks. Before anyone says anything, I'm well aware that my healthcare practitioners will not give a shiny shite about the state of my bikini line, but I do. For personal hygiene, general pampering and because I'm having a planned c section I decided to do a 'trim' in the bath this afternoon.

FAIL.

Ended up getting out of the bath, having to stand on tip toe in front of the mirror on DS' IKEA bathroom step, hacking away whilst trying to lift my fucking massive bump out of the way. My bikini line now looks something like the picture. Sigh.

Lol. I need to start having a play around with my veet to get the bush under control. Seems like it would take a lot of effort as the ball belly isn't great for balancing act!

If its hygiene you're concerned about, best leave it be.

Plus, how is what you just described "pampering"? Torture more like :)

I saw on a previous thread that caution needed to be taken with hair removal creams - as in strictly use the sensitive ones specifically for bikini lines and definitely patch test as skin can get more sensitive, but should be ok.

I would let the hospital do it. They are the only ones who will be looking at it. It sounds too much bother for the result.

Hahaha I'm 31 weeks and went for a bikini was a week ago, that's tidied most of it up but as I'm more sensitive I couldn't let her get right underneath so took a ladyshave to that last night - I go from smooth to spiky to an inch long all in the space of 3cm! Feel your pain!

Was told to leave mine alone for my section and midwife in theatre did it for me. Couldn't care less her doing it as at that point you just don't do you BUT I hated how hairy I got on the run up...!

On another note I once experimented with having "less" down there only to then realise I had my smear due in two days time. I looked like a plucked chicken. Was a tad mortified at my pathetic Brazilian attempt.

Always patch test if using hair removal cream in pregnancy (even if it's a brand you've never had problems with before) and I really wouldn't recommend it is late pg. also, go not wax close to your due date (as you may well be more sensitive than usual, and the last thing you want in labour is an inflamed undercarriage).

Shaving isn't recommended either - it's only a small risk, but the micro abrasions that come with it can be a route to infection. Though if you're having a planned CS, removing hair from where they're going to stick dressings might be a good idea (shaving round incision sites is usually a good idea).

I just don't want to turn up for my section with a massive, uncontrollable bush I'm not proud or bovvered what others think, but for the sake of not feeling like a massive fat hairy whale, I'm glad I gave it a bash.

I'm going to have a go with the Immac tomorrow to get the last few stragglers. I've used it in my previous pregnancy and did a patch test before using it earlier in this one. It's not like we're swallowing it.

My c sec letter said they would shave the top two CM but I could do this at home if I wanted - although it 'may be awkward to reach'

micah WRT pampering, I used a very nice L'Occitane shower gel (thanks Father Christmas) in the bath for some bubbles and exfoliated my face too, so am classing that aspect of the experience as vague pampering. The shaving, not so much.

Given that I could barely shave my legs at the weekend I'm impressed you even tried OP

I can just about reach my toenails to paint them but I can't contort enough to tidy up the lady garden!

I had a gardening practice in preparation for my ELCS and gave up and got dp to do it for my with an electric razor so it's all Iceland trimmed very short but not bald so avoiding infection risk!

Was a little bit scared at dp being in charge of an electric machine so close to such a sensitive area but he did well apparently, I can't see to check

Prior to my EMCS, midwife did me the honour of shaving my bits (which I thought I had carefully tended myself!). Nowadays, a CS is 'below the bikini line'. So, you need to clear your hair quite low down - i.e. well below the bikini line.
They'll probably clean it up if there's any regrowth there anyway. Midwife was quite amusing about it, saying 'now this won't be near as neat as you'd do it yourself, but the surgeons demand it'.
She also removed my carefully painted toe-nail varnish lol.

I found balancing the hand held mirror on the edge of the bath, me standing in bath, gives an ok view of the situation. Although new lady trimmer sounds more like a bloody chainsaw?!

I'm currently giving Chewbacca a run for his money but I've told DH he'll have to sort me out in 2 weeks for C Section. His face was a picture, poor sod.

DH was fair queasy at our antenatal class when the lady started going on about mucus plugs, bloody shows and waters going in a gush. To be fair he wasn't the only pale male!

If I ask him to do a tidy up of my nethers before he has recovered from that I fear he will go and rock quietly in a corner.

DH attempted a neaten-up for me with his beard trimmer last time, and managed to cut me.

He who shall not be trusted is going nowhere NEAR my bits this time - I don't know how he managed it, it had a safety guard and everything.

70s bush for the win, here.

Oh lord now I'm having second thoughts. He initially refused until I told him it was him or my very attractive surgeon with a bic clearing way for the incision!

Ladies this has made me laugh out loud (thank you) which is very difficult being 36 weeks, waiting for a scheduled section for DS 2 and being full of the cold! Have also tidied up the fanjo area without being able to see. Trimmed length but that was all I could manage
