High risk -cervix length

Hi

I am looking to find others that have been in or are in a similar position to me.

I was flagged as high risk for assessment for MTC (Maternity team care) by my community midwife at my first booking, due to having had cryotherapy/cryosurgery years ago.

My community midwife told me that it was more precautionary than anything else & may mean that at some-point they may consider inserting a stitch at some-point if my cervical length may cause problems with me carrying the baby to full term.

I didn't actually see the consultant until I was nearly 17 weeks due to a delay in my booking appointment with the hospital midwife.

I am now approaching 23 weeks, I am still seeing the consultant (meant to be a 2 week intervals, although their were some scheduling problems).

I am not feeling a great deal wiser as to what this high risk label actually means to me.

The consultant when I have seen her has been really busy and while has asked if I have questions, not the most informative. She asked me at my recent scan if she had prescribed me injections, the only injection I'm currently scheduled to have is an Anti D. When I asked her about this she said it was progesterone & she didn't want to give me them too soon, The midwife did elaborate a bit more on this.

I also asked the consultant if I need to be being careful.. for instance is it OK to have sex, her answer was vague. I believe she told me that it is OK to have sex I shouldn't necessarily abstain but to be careful until after 28 weeks, am not really sure what to make of this.

From my own reading & subsequent questioning I know that I currently have no funnelling :) however cervical length is shorter than average with my posterior measurement shorter than the anterior so cervix neck like a tube/cylinder with a tip rather than a blunt end.

Hi everyone, just read this and I know plenty about cervix measurements (it's my job!) and preterm clinics etc.

Sophie your measurements are very normal, you should not be worried. I don't know where the 4-5cm is coming from, but I've seen a lot of cervix measurements and these are pretty normal lengths!

ReadyOrNot - where in the country are you? I'm glad you are being seen regularly and have the progesterone just in case. Just wondering where you are in case there is extra help nearby you could get??

Also didn't mean to be dismissive - I understand that you will worry, Sophie, but just wanted to reassure you about the lengths. Keep having the scans and try to enjoy your pregnancy!

Hi Sophie,

I meant to add that I'm sorry about your previous loss, no wonder you are stressed about it. I had spotting, and some leaks of fluid, one time the leak soaked through to my jeans, they never got to the bottom of that though, they could see pockets of fluid on the internal scan and thought it may be a slow leak from my hind waters, but otherwise all was fairly stable. I was signed off at 32 weeks as the baby was engaged and my cervix was very soft, so it was a precautionary measure to prevent preterm.

Sounds like you're in the right hands

Slinkier- hi, and thats a relief to here then i've just been worrying so much that i'm crying about it because im stressing way too much and its annoying because my dr is only in clinics on thursdays and wasnt even in yesterday so they said no one could see me. So ive just been googling stuff all day. Im getting hip aches on my right side which is stressing me out too. But from previous pregnancy i know the symptoms i had. I just feel like im looking out for every general ache and pain to stress me out more :(
i know many women get checked every 2 weeks too i just guess im going abit ott thinking its such a long wait and scared about things happening within that time

Sophiehfz2805 · 27/01/2017 12:29

Annlee3817- what do you mean leaks of fluid? Like ive been getting normal discharge but at the same time it feels wet too like down below tmi i know sorry but yeah

annlee3817 · 27/01/2017 13:40

I'm talking about a gush and my underwear being soaked through and my jeans, only happened the once like that thankfully. Having to wear a pad in pregnancy because of watery discharge is pretty normal, this was a small gush.

Think it's under 2.2 they stitch

I had regular cervical checks 12/24w as had cone biopsy many years ago where doctor was over generous what he took .....

Tho think it's was their method then

Sounds like your measurements are fine but they should cervical check you each scan /regularly

I was advised no sex as slight risk and if did decide to have sex if bleed stop asap and not again till given birth

Bubs is our 5 private ivf so df and I aren't risking it

Havnt had sex for months. Didn't even have sex to get preg 😉

Miss it tons but not risking bubs
