Naming Baby

Anyone else overwhelmed by the thought of having to choose a name for your baby to use for the rest of it's life? It sometimes terrifies me that I might choose the "wrong" one even though DH assures me this is not possible.

Also, we arague about middle names. I don't see the point in middle names unless they are going to be used as part of the whole name, and not just forgotten, only ever to be written on forms. DH thinks they are almost compulsory. I'm not against giving my child one but have more to owrry about with choosing a first name at the mo.

Know what you mean about worrying you'll choose the 'wrong' one but I find once you have decided on a name and started calling the baby by it you can't imagine him/her being called anything else!

I like the get out clause idea of a middle name - that way my baby, who will eventually decide it hates his/her given name, can change it to middle one. Although, every child I knew at school hated their middle name - seemed to ba a source of embarassment! I never had one, so never had the choice to use/lose it.

I was beginning to think one name was hard enough to "match" with our surname; so finding another that "matches" both to go in the middle would be even worse ... is this not the case? As long as middle names just fit I don't mind.
