Transverse position?!?!

Just been to midwife at 34 weeks who thinks baby is lying transverse. What does that mean? What would happen? Won't find out properly until 36 weeks for a scan. I had a 4d scan a couple of weeks ago and they said baby was lying head down but maybe they aren't qualified enough to give proper angle?

It means they're lying sideways (DS2 spent a lot of time like that - but he was a fidget and switched around a lot).

It's not something that the 4d scan would have missed - even you can probably feel where the baby's bum and head are if you have a good feel.

DS2 was breech at one point close to the end too, he'd turned before the crunch point though (I don't know how he found the space - I'm 5' and he was a 9lber!)

Your baby is lying across you. Not in favourable position for labour. It's nothing to be worried over just yet. Baby has time to turn by itself at the moment.

If baby doesn't turn, they may offer you an ECV, external cephalic version, which involves turning your baby from the outside. There are risks involved with this which will be explained to you, but you can say no and opt for a c section.

My baby was transverse at this stage but did turn down and was born naturally.

My dd was 10lb 5 by the way so dunno how she managed it but she did turn!

Yep I'm like Gastro two of mine were transverse and went head down at 38 weeks, they weighed in at 10.9lbs and 11.6lbs. Infact my 11.6lb dc was head on left at one growth scan and then I visited my osteopath and went back for another growth scan a few days later and he was head on the right :)

Transverse is not a good position to be in as there is a risk of cord prolapse should your waters break. You may be admitted prior to elective c section if baby hasn't moved at 38 weeks is

You know I keep thinking my waters are going to break. My body is telling me this baby is coming early. I can't fight the feeling and this is my third. Never had it with the other two.
