early scan - question

Hi all, I am due to have a private early scan tomorrow (8 +1) and they rang me at work so I couldn't ask any questions.

So, can anyone tell me if I will need a full bladder?

It depends if you're having an internal one or external. If internal empty bladder, external full (but it doesn't need to be bursting full). Just go with a full ish bladder then ask at reception.

At 8 weeks it depends...on the cusp of whether they will do an external (full bladder) or internal (empty bladder) scan. In my experience, they've generally tried external first and if they're not getting a clear pic, they then ask you to wee and do an internal. Suggest going with a full bladder and they'll tell you - there are always plenty of loos!

I had an early scan at 6-7 weeks and needed a full bladder. At that point the babies are still very low in the pelvis area and a full bladder gives them an extra boost to get the babies in a better viewing position. If you can't keep the water in/down I threw mine up they will do an internal scan.

I'd say actually it's pretty normal! I have scans every 4 weeks for my twins and I still get soooo nervous now even 5 scans later at 21weeks!

Go with a full bladder. You can always have a wee if they need to do an internal (which doesn't hurt, btw).

Scan anxiety is TOTALLY normal. I'm 34 weeks with a very active baby and I still get nervous before scans (extra ones as big baby).

Meant losing it as in going mad not actually losing the baby! Just thought I'd clarify!

Also glad to know it's not just me that thinks funny things! Fingers crossed that all is well tomorrow and maybe it might make this whole thing feel more real!

Had my scan! There was a heartbeat and it was waving it's arms and legs! Measuring 8 + 2 so right where it should be. What a relief!
