Bedside Crib?

I'm 22 weeks with DC1 and am just starting to think about practical things. I realise the baby will probably be in with us for the first 6 months.

Would you recommend a bedside crib - I keep hearing about the Snuzpod - is it any good? Also is this what everyone does, or do people use something like the Sleepyhead actually in the bed (we have a wide bed!).

Any advice much appreciated!

I have bought my second Arms Reach co sleeping cot from eBay. I loved my first one so much that after I sold it to make room I've ended up rebuying one for DS that's due in February.

I've got a chicco next to me with the sleepyhead in it (after non-sleeping DD1 we went for a belts-and-braces approach this time). Works brilliantly!

Bedside cribs are fantastic, I really recommend one if you're hoping to breastfeed.

Ooh, I'd like to know as well. Am 18wks and am looking into a Babybay, although I like the look of the Snizpod and Chicco Next2Me as well.

I'm expecting my second child in April and am going to buy the Chicco next2me this time around. Hated getting out of bed to retrieve DD out of the moses basket last time. I also recommend zip up swaddle blankets if you decide to swaddle, I discovered them too late and they would have saved precious minutes of sleep in the middle of the night!

We had the Snuzpod last time. Was brilliant- felt like he was in the bed with us (but no risk Of rolling on him). Also great for b feeding - just picked him out and didn't have to get out of bed.

Thanks all It sounds like we would be going for the Snuzpod (thanks Chatty) as it seems to be quite slender and it's the only one that would fit bedside the bed. We just moved house - huge bed into small room! The Chicco looks good but wouldn't fit between the bedside and the wall. Although, the Snuzppod is a metre long - I would have to shimmy down the bed to get out!

I was going to recommend a bedside cot over a bedside crib - just because its so great for so long but just seen you have limited room. In which case go for the biggest you can fit... otherwise you may have to move your baby out to their room sooner than you'd like.
(Thats my view as I'd hate the idea of having to get up to go breastfeed in another room - just being able to reach over suits my lazy approach!!!)
You get used to the shimmy and also while they are really little and not very mobile you have room for your bottle of water, midnight snacks and wipes to clear up the milky dribbles!

I really like the idea of a bedside crib but I am worried about the duvet ending up on the baby. I may be being a bit dim here but is it easy to avoid? I have not started looking at 'real' ones yet, just researching online.

I think we are going to get the chicco next to me bedside crib because I like that it all packs up neatly so we can take it on holiday/to my parents house if we visit etc.

Re duvet etc. I've actually thought 'ooh I wonder if they do giant cellular blankets' I guess the side will be up when the baby is asleep?

We had a snuzpod and it is fantastic. Ds was a long baby though and he did outgrow it by 4.5 months...he'd wake himself banging his arms on the side. We then ended up getting the troll bedside cot. We love that too but it's been an expensive few months! If I could do it again I'd just get the troll cot and put a sleepyhead in it for when they're really little so I wouldn't have to pay out twice!

Ooh sorry just saw if you've limited space the snuzpod is great. And if you don't have a monster baby you will hopefully get more use then us!

We have the ikea Gulliver cot which is designed so it can be used with 3 sides or 4, we have the side off and it attached to the side of our bed. So far he's only ever slept in the Moses basket or in bed with me though. I have the duvet over my legs and a thin blanket and a warm pyjama top on my top half.

We have a sleigh cot (bought cheaply thirdhand and sanded/ repainted) with one side off, side by side with our bed. DS is in that in his Sleepyhead. VERY handy for night time. The Sleepyhead works well as a safe co-sleeper in the bed beside you too. And great for travelling, evening at friends' etc.

DH and I have a light blanket apiece but that's really only because it's so hot where we are this time of year. A quilt is unlikely to encroach on the baby's area, I think. If you use the Sleepyhead in your bed, you'd probably keep it very high up the bed and minimise your pillows. Again, I think very safe.

Thanks for the feedback . That sounds great villainous - I like the idea of having the Sleepyhead in the bed too - thanks for the tips.

Glad to hear the Snuzpod is worth getting (it's the only one that will fit). I'm 22 weeks and still holding off from buying anything. I'm not sure when I'll actually believe that being pregnant means I'm having a baby

Absolutely loved our Snuzpod and thoroughly lament the fact that DD has grown out of it. I almost cried when we packed it up.

Madratlady, I've been looking at getting an IKEA Gulliver cot for when our baby comes along, but I wasn't sure it'd fit with the bed as a co-sleeper, since it only has 2 adjustable height options. How did you manage to 'attach' it to your bed?
