excuses, excuses....

DH and I happily discovered last night that i am pregnant with our second child. Whilst our families will be over the moon we have decided not to tell anyone for a while yet (unlike when we discovered i was pregnant with DS - now 27mths and we drove round the county that night breaking the news!!)
Anyway I am convinced that we'll get rumbled over christmas due to that fact that I won't be drinking!! we can fob a few people off by saying that it is my turn to drive but i know my mum will be really suspicious as we are ging to hers for xmas day tea and staying the night...AAAUUUGGGHH does anyone have ideas for a decent excuse that i can use.

the only one I have heard suggested, that might work, is: I am too hung over from last night!! plus, would explain looking fairly sick etc!

I'm not good at telling lies so the antibiotics one would convince her for all of three seconds though the hungover might be a good one!

I have also got a works xmas night out on Friday and that too is going to be a nightmare as last time i fobbed them off with antibiotics but this time they would cotton on in a flash.

DH and I did a bit of team work when we were in a similar situation. I accepted a glass of wine. DH drank it.... When no one was looking we would switch his empty glass with my full one!

Could you try telling them that DC1 was unwell the previous night, you had to keep getting up to him/her, and you fear it will be 'the same tonight' and daren't drink much?

I managed to get through a works do by pretending to drink gin & tonic, actually just tonic, ice & slice, and lots of giddy laughing and dancing. But you need someone in cahoots so you're not always the one fixing the drinks.

Tonic without the gin is a great idea for my works do..i'll give it a whirl.

I like the idea of saying our son had been up the night before and i'm worried he might do the same but my mum will only offer to get up with him...aaauuuggghh!!!

Babylove, i've been reading your thread, the stress of it all must be driving you nuts. I hope it all works out for you.
