Very upsetting NT scan result

I'm 46 years old and just got a terrible NT scan of 1 in 4 and a possible non visible nasal bone. The blood tests were fine and I'm having a CVS test on Thursday. Can I please talk with anyone who has had a similar experience? Thank you so much.

Hi Dancer

I went for the Harmony test because of my age (nearly 43). The first viability scan showed the baby, but my initial result was 1 in 4 based on my age alone. I have to say that for me the nasal bone was visible, but it is just cartilagev at that stage, which is why it's a soft marker, not diagnostic .

My bloods looked a bit odd (high PAPP-A and high hcg) but the Harmony eventually came back as 1 in 10,0000.

I went through a rollercoaster, so I appreciate how worrying it is. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope your CVS comes back all ok

So sorry that you are having to go through this! Please remember that your age alone will increase your risk massively. Did they give you the details which of the markers has made the risk so high (nuchal fold measurement, Papp-A or b-Hcg levels)?

Like hebs says, the Harmony test would be an option, it is much more accurate than the combined screening, without the risks associated with CVS and amnio. However, waiting times for results can be up to 2 weeks, and it will still only give you a risk, not a diagnostic result.

If you go on the 'Antenatal tests' forum, there will be lots of people offering advice and support who have gone through something similar: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_tests_choices
