Bag big enough for maternity notes?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a bag large enough for maternity notes (in the folder)? Ideally waterproof.

What for?

I just carried them mostly

MrsCrimshaw · 28/11/2015 14:43

I was given a satchel like this two years ago (I wouldn't pay that much for one myself) and never found a use for it until now. But for maternity notes - a satchel appears to be a perfect fit!

I just carried them in whatever. They are only A4-ish. I drove to most of my appointments so just left them in the car.

ComeLuckyApril · 28/11/2015 15:25

Mine seem much bigger than A4? Yeah, I think the problem is I don't drive so I'm always waiting for buses in the rain with them.

Oh, that is such a beautiful satchel. I wonder if I can find a way to justify it?

Just measured, 32 by 27cm and about 3 cm wide at the ring bound end! That might even be bigger than the satchel!

Oysterbabe · 28/11/2015 15:29

I've just got mine in a plastic wallet that I carry to appointments.

ComeLuckyApril · 28/11/2015 15:33

This might be big and cheap enough: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Unisex-Large-A4-Vintage-School-College-Satchel-Shoulder-Handbag-Crossbody-/151755455830?var=&hash=item2355547d56:m:m89ZqfmpXMWCT1n8pPny7vg

I think since I've got until April to go, and it's so wintry here it will make it a lot easier, especially that bit where you're meant to take them everywhere.

LillyBugg · 28/11/2015 15:33

Ring bound? Wow those are some notes.

ComeLuckyApril · 28/11/2015 15:34

Now I feel all annoyed that it's only my area that do ring bound ones. I wouldn't mind if the ring bound folder was protective, but it's open around all the edges and I know I'll get everything coated in rain.

I think I just used a canvas shopper bag for mine...

SavoyCabbage · 28/11/2015 15:51

Just shove them in a bag for life.

SweepTheHalls · 28/11/2015 15:53

I never took mine anywhere except appointments!

Nishky · 28/11/2015 15:57

We went to a wedding with friends, just the evening do -our friend had a large bag, whilst pissed her husband told us that it was because she had her notes with her- she was about 4 months pregnant at the time. Mine just stayed in the drawer until I had an appointment

MrsCrimshaw · 28/11/2015 16:20

My midwife told me off for not carrying my notes with me at all times! I haven't dared not go anywhere without them since.

April your folder sounds huge!

ComeLuckyApril · 28/11/2015 16:44

Any excuse for buying a new bag suits me :) But yes, they're enormous and seem to leave me with no handle room in most other bags. I hope I'm not meant to take them to work and back, carrying my lunch and my work bag is faff enough.

I had a midwife questioning me over the phone a few weeks ago at 18 weeks as to why I didn't have my notes on me to look something up! Although they were very nearby in the car! I'm just keeping them in the car this time around so not likely to be any major distance away when I'm at work as I don't use public transport. First time around I didn't take them anywhere except appointments though. I've seen people carrying them in coloured plastic envelope things - which looks a bit nicer than the bounty wallet I'm using!

LillyBugg · 28/11/2015 17:11

Yeah I think mine just lived in the car from about 7 months. Carrying them at all times including a wedding at four months is just madness!

wonkylegs · 28/11/2015 17:27

I have a bag similar to this www.tkmaxx.com/view-all-womens-new-in/black-leatherette-tote-bag/invt/11289449 which I used to use for work which fits my notes in. I have two sets of notes as my MW is in one trust and my hospital in another and they have different notes in each (yellow & purple) and both are fat as I have a pre-existing medical condition so there are loads of letters between my rheumatologist, specialist nurse and obstetrician as well as the usual gumpf

Battleshiphips2 · 28/11/2015 17:34

I have never dreamed of taking my notes around with me but come to think of it I maybe should as I'm on loads of medication and also gave loads of complications! Mine are ring bound notes too and they are slowly getting bigger. I know just what you mean as I had to get public transport to earlier appointments and it was again carrying them around. Satchel looks like a good idea.

purplefizz26 · 28/11/2015 17:34

To those only taking notes to appointments - If anything happens while you are out and about, say you collapse or have an accident ending up unconscious having notes with you could be very handy!

River island, cath kidston and monsoon usually have lovely big bags!

wonkylegs · 28/11/2015 17:45

I don't carry my notes everywhere atm but my pertinent medical notes (pregnancy, medical condition, medications, consultants names & hospitals, emergency contact) are in the medic alert function on my phone which can be accessed without a passcode.

Daffydil · 28/11/2015 17:51

I have this bag, which fits my notes perfectly. Room for a few sample pots in the front pocket Wink

I'm 30 weeks and only take my notes with me if I'm travelling far from home.

Runningupthathill82 · 28/11/2015 18:07

I'm 32 weeks and the notes are on my bookshelf. When going to appointments, they get shoved in a bag for life.
They live in a big brown envelope, because that Bounty folder they try to foist on you gives me the rage.
In my last pregnancy, the only time I took them anywhere was to a 60th birthday party two hours from home, on the day before my due date.
I'm not planning on doing anything dissimilar with them this time.

Champagneformyrealfriends · 28/11/2015 18:10

Can't you just take photos of each page on your phone? That's what I've done x
