Chronic Heartburn

Have had this for 2 days and nights now and feel like a very large elephant is sitting on my chest. Have tried everything I can think of, Gaviscon not working (used to work wonders), or Peptac Liquid and rennies give a temporary cure but make me vomit in the end.
I'm finding it very difficult to do much - have never suffered with such a severe case of heartburn before. Trying to avoid certain foods etc..but to be honest, don't even feel like eating with the h/b being so bad

Any remedies/cures that you've found to work pls.

Hiya just want to say i sympathise with you, i am 39 weeks and suffering badly, the only way i have found is by propping my pillows right up and not lying on my back, also taking milk almost constantly, yoghurt and ice cream also, this seems to be becoming my diet, not very healthy though i know!

it will get better...baby will drop soon and less pressure.........

try eating little and often , rather than 3 big meals, and don't go to bed too soon after eating....

mint tea is excellent for the digestive system..x

Thank you. MIL also suggested a good yoghurt. Have just had a few good tbsps and it doesn't feel quite so bad. Will keep all other suggestions including mint tea and pineapple which i love in mind.

I second the Ranitidine suggestion, you can also buy them over the counter as Zantac.

Don't think you can take zantac when pg can you?

I have to second lulu on the Mint Tea. With first pregnancy I had heartburn for 9 months. This one I drink 1 cup in the morning and 1 at night before bed, and I have no heartburn.

Drink milk! Pineapple made it worse as did bananas! Milk was the only thing that worked with me! Even water gave me heartburn when pregnant with DD! However did mean i put on 5 stone when pregnant tho! Was told you cant take Gavascon! Horrible midwife wanting me to suffer! Am determined not too this time!

i used to cry with heartburn at about this stage of pregnancy, it does actually get better when the baby moves down, so hang in there!
my cures were: papaya (brilliant, but expensive. very alkaline apparently). peppermint tea & fennel tea were great. avoid tea, coffee, alcohol and it might sound silly but don't drink much water, that actually made mine worse and a homeopath told me that was a common mistake people make.
Milk, Yoghurt etc.. as been said already.
Rennie Duo is a good one. (like gaviscon but i started to gag on gaviscon after a while).

Don't get hungry. Like lulu said, eat little and often, before you get that hungry feeling. Liquids reflux more easily than solids so avoid drinking anything for a couple of hours before you go to bed. I find that carbohydrates makes mine a lot worse, especially fresh bread, plus orange juice, fatty foods and caffeine.

You have all my sympathy, I've had it in all 3 pgs and it's a nightmare .
