Please help me deal with early scan results

Hi ladies, I should be 7weeks for days according To LMP and 6weeks 4 days according to ovulation on clear blue, but had an early scan today which says 5.5 days, had gestation, York sac and feral pole measuring 2mm.

That means it's out by a week, early pregnancy unit won't see me until after two weeks from today. I called them as I was concerned about the result. Should I prepare for the worst? Please share your experiences. Positive pregnancy test was a very faint first response on 1st November.

It could be that ovulation test was incorrect maybe you didn't actual ovulate till week after.

Did sonography show any concern over findings? Why will early preg not see u for 2 weeks that makes no sensex

there isn't much you can do - have you had any adverse symptoms as bleeding or painful cramps. Although cramps on their own isn't necessarily a bad sign I had them with two of my three pregnancies

Too soon to say what's going on. I understand this is an anxious time. The ovulation tests actually don't tell you when you've ovulated, they detect the LH surge that tends to occur before ovulation. But you can get a surge and not ovulate, then get another surge and ovulate later. So the dates might be out from that point of view.

Secondly those early scans are hard to measure and date accurately, this is why dating scans are done at around 12 weeks.

The 2 week wait for another scan imposed by epau is normal though very frustrating. It's to check that the pregnancy develops at a normal rate between 2 scans. Because although this last scan seemed "wrong", a scan in 2 weeks might well show 2 weeks' growth and a heart beat / viable pregnancy. In the past occasionally scans that seemed "wrong" like yours were believed to be miscarriages and treated as such (with surgery or medications) when sadly they may well have been fine.

I thought the 12 week dating scan was just the NHS saving money.

Na they scan them as its most accurate time to date pregnancy anything before this is purely guess work X

I went for a scan at 8 weeks only to be told the baby was measuring 6 weeks. The sonographer was reassured by the neat shape of the sac - apparently it's more likely to be viable if it's a nice neat round sac rather than an irregular one - but was quite gloomy and gave us 50/50. DD will be 10 weeks tomorrow!

Remember that the scan is an estimate based on measurements; one mm makes a massive difference at this stage. Plus you could have ovulated a bit late and it takes a day or two to implant.

So nobody can give you any guarantee, but it certainly doesn't have to be bad news!

No bleeding and no cramping is good. Not a guarantee, but better than if there was some.

The scan is not so much wrong as very hard to interpret. With scans before 12 weeks what they are measuring is so tiny that the slightest error can throw the results way out. By 12 weeks it's easier to measure. After 12 weeks there is a lot of variation so they cannot date accurately. Scanning at 12 weeks does save some money too as firstly as we know many pregnancies are lost before then, and secondly early scans can cause the kind of uncertainty and worry you are now experiencing. I've had early scans due to a previous loss. In both cases I was told not to have a scan before I thought I was 8 weeks. As by this stage, even if I was a week or more out it should give clear information: IE a heart beat if all was well.

Ugh. Early pregnancy can be very worrisome.

I would try not to worry too much as difficult as it sounds.

As well as it being difficult to measure, i have had two early scans in two different pregnancies, showing i was a 7-10 days behind what i thought i was. I knew they were wrong as we hadn't had that much sex so i knew my dates . By the 12 week scan i was given the dates i had expected.

Remember they are measuring something that is mm long so the margin for error is much bigger. .5 of a mm out on 4mm is a huge difference and possibly days off your due date than .5mm out on a 12 week scan where they are measuring a 2 or 3 cm baby.

I was measured to be 5w5d at 6w3d and by 12 weeks I was measuring 2 days further ahead! Don't worry too much at this stage.

Thank you so much ladies, you have given me some hope, mothering is so nerve testing, it's so hard to not think about it for two weeks.
