Hey jsut wondering, what do they say is an average 'normal' blood pressure resukt when pregnant? Im 12 weeks pregnant n have had had 2 low readings compared to my last pregnancy n was just wondering if its normal n i just had had slightly higher blood pressure with DD1. Many thanks x

Well, normal blood pressure for a non-pregnant woman is 120/80 so blood pressure for a pregnant woman should be less than this (althugh it can rise slightly in the third trimester). I think the lowest reading I ever had was 90/50 - which sounds so scary!

As to the reason why this should be ..........no idea!

blood pressure can drop a little in early pregnancy, stay lower for the second trimester and come back up towards term

it will vary from woman to woman, and if the midwife is not concerned, then you shouldn't be...

high blood pressure is a cause for concern....what is 'normal' blood pressure will vary and as long as your midwife is happy with yours, it is not a problem

110/70 is an acceptable average ..

this is a good article.....

Low is fine, not a worry - it's raised blood pressure that needs watching and monitoring (and I was told not necessarily above a certain level, just proportionately higher than usual).

I am pg and bp is generally 90/50 so fairly low, so I have to be careful re. dizziness etc, but otherwise it's classed as "normal".

Thanks everyone, first reading was 80/40 then it was 90/50 last week. It was always at least 120/80 with DD but none of the midwifes seemed concerned which is why i was wondering now. x

My bp was quite a lot lower during pregnancy. It did rise at the end but obv that's a typically first-pregnancy thing, and both I and ds were completely fine anyway.

The concern is if it changes much from whatever your booking BP was.

I think they might look into it if your diastolic figure (the lower one) rises more than 20 above your initial reading, but unless your BP reaches hypertension levels (140/90 or higher) you'll probably be considered to be fine.

Mine is normally about 100/60, dropped a bit during early pregnancy and at 29 weeks is now 110/70 which I'm told is perfectly fine.
