How painful should braxton hicks be?

I've been havjng BH for weeks but the last couple of days they have been really strong and starting to get a little painful, last night they were so bad they woke up several times in the night and I've been having fanny daggers all morning.

Is this normal? I always though BH were meant to be painless!

I've had a few infrequent ones that have taken my breath away. Quite short but very sudden and sharp. Afterwards my bump goes all hard and I get a tugging sort of feeling for a while. I'm 34 weeks, how far are you?

I'm only 31 weeks which is why I was worried!

I know what you mean by the tugging feeling, it isn't very nice!

Mine have varying degrees of pain and discomfort. Ranging from no pain at all ( just hard belly) to really nippy period cramp type pain. Whoever says they're not supposed to be painful are telling fibs! X

Check at your next mw appointment. Mine have been been since about 30 weeks, my mw wasn't worried at all. But yes, whoever says they don't hurt is lying!

sorry to hijack the thread but when you say belly going hard.. do you mean the whole thing? The top of my belly has been 'going hard' for a few weeks now but feels more like baby pushing its bum up and out if that makes sense??

When I'm having them my whole bump goes hard, no squishy bits.

Other times there are hard bits, protruding which my midwife told me to stop poking because it's either head or bum moving around

One of my lovely hospital midwives has a habit of reminding me that whoever said Brixton hicks don't hurt had to have been a man :-)

Mine is second pregnancy and they have been walloping me and hurting

The advice I've been given is not to worry unless they increase in frequency and pain..... I had one hour where they did but they died off

Plus take paracetamol and if it touches it again don't worry it's Brixton hicks

well I guess in comparison to labour contractions they dont really hurt. more of a strong discomfort. I've had a few that have taken my breath away and made me go 'ow', like strong period-type pain.

my bump doesn't all go hard. well the 'bump' does but as this is pregnancy number 4, I had a bit of a wobble before falling pregnant, and that wobble is still there at the bottom of bump and obviously that doesn't go hard as its just fat and not uterus. so I can tell its a BH by the top and sides going hard.

Fanny daggers hahah you just made my day. Last night they were awful and everytime baby moved it would set one off. Was horrid.

I had really painful bh from about 35 weeks with dd2. I found it really hard to tell whether they were bh or labour by the end.
