Have my 5 month scan in early january and was just wondering if you have to pay for a scan picture of the baby? If so, how much do they cost roughly? And is there a limit to how many you can get cause loads of my family wants one!

Our hospital just ask's for a donation of whatever you can afford they usualy only give you 2/3 small ones though but i think the are safe to photocopy and scan.

Quootiepie · 10/12/2006 18:15

£3 a pic I think...

WigWamBahhumbug · 10/12/2006 18:17

It cost £3 per picture when I was pregnant, that was a while ago but I went along with a friend recently and it's still the same price. Make sure you check what the drill is before you go in, because in some hospitals you have to pay for a token before you go in as the staff can't take money from you.

Your best bet is probably to pay for one, then scan it and print off copies yourself.

My hospital didn't charge and I was given about 8 little pictures which I scanned and e-mailed to family

ours ask for donations. Scan the original into your PC and print them off. This is good for keeping them anyway.

do not under any circumstances laminate the original(s) or get them hot in any way. it's thermal paper.

it was £3.00 per picture

pedilia · 10/12/2006 18:41

my local hospital was £2 per picture, I volunteered at the hospital for students to leanr how to use scanning equipment so I got loads free and piad a fiver!

TheBlonde · 10/12/2006 18:57

2 quid here and you have to say at the start you want pics or they don't do any

Fivefour · 10/12/2006 19:05

Blimey, I had a feeling our local hospital was trying to rob us with the cost of scan pics but now I know for sure! It costs £10 for 1 pic or £15 for 2. It used to be £3 but the hospital has huge debts so I guess they're trying to raise cash wherever they can! Needless to say, it's put me off buying any, particularly since they're not really that good quality anyway.

Nikaleeona · 10/12/2006 20:45

Last year it was £3 a pic, this year its £5 a pic!!!! No reason why its gone up! Your very lucky people that dont have to pay!!!

TheOlihantheIvy · 10/12/2006 20:54

Ours are £2 but the sonographers basically decide how many you get. We got 3 of different angles then scanned and printed them for the family.

peacemakertooneandall · 11/12/2006 10:59

Ours our £3.50 which I wouldn't mind paying but the pics so far have been rubbish

NbgSparklyYellowFeathers · 11/12/2006 11:00

Ours were £5 for 3. We couldnt get anymore than that.

Juicythe2ndnotsowiseman · 11/12/2006 12:17

Royal in London £5, but we got our 12wk pics for free. (V.nice sonographer)

TinselgalacticWalrus · 11/12/2006 12:21

When I had my scan with DS2 in April this year, it was £4. When my friend had a scan in Septrember, it was a tenner

nuttygirl · 11/12/2006 13:40

At the 20 week scan ours were £5 per pic, luckily DH had a fiver so we only got one. They took cash or cheque in our hospital (Leeds). They were free at the 12 week scan but you could only get one.

cinnamongreyhound · 11/12/2006 14:40

Ours was a donation of what we felt appropriate, a friend paid £4.50.

We were asked how many we wanted and given what we asked for.

They are usually printed on heat sensitive paper so photocopying is not a good idea but scanning is fine. I have mine scanned and have printed quite a few for anyone who wanted one (not as good as the real thing imo).

taylormama · 11/12/2006 14:43

mine were £6 each!! Really expensive but we are darn sarf ... however the first scan piccie was so rubbish - basically a piccie of DS's bottom that they waived the fee!!!

ComeOyefaithfulVeneer · 11/12/2006 14:46

£3 each here. I second scanning them as over time they fade quite a lot.

paulaplumpbottom · 11/12/2006 15:47

We had to give a donation.

PortAndLemonaid · 11/12/2006 15:54

£5 a picture to the hospital charitable fund. It may well be on that shiny paper that faxes used to come on, which fades pretty quickly so definitely just get one copy and scan it. At my hospital the money went to a general fund that they use for non-medical stuff like buying toys and magazines for the waiting rooms.
