Not drinking excuse needed for tonight

Need an excuse for tonight. Found out I was pregnant a few days ago, so it is VERY early days. I'm due to go out with my best girlfriends tonight for a meal during which I would usually have a glass of wine or 2 or 3...

I've managed to secure my role as designated driver, but I would still usually have a small glass of white. They will be seriously suspicious if I say I'm not drinking anything... can anyone think of a good excuse?

Antibiotics?

Be the designated wine pourer. Poor a tiny drop for yourself and pretend drink it- just bring it up to your lips and make contact every so often. Pour wine liberally for the others. No one will notice. I've done it myself and it works a treat.

In the unlikely event anyone comments just say you've gone off sauv blanc (or whatever) a bit lately.

I had this at my mums wedding meal. I had to tell them that I've been suffering with really bad headaches and that my doctor told me to swerve from alcohol and caffeine. My family all brought it the only thing I accidentally did was had a can of full fat Coke which my family all enjoyed pointing out that there was caffeine in that too, lol

If go with Diggum's suggestion, no one will notice.

I wouldn't say antibiotics-that to me screams "pregnant!" I got my BFP 2 days before my hen do so I just told my friends but if you don't want people to know couldn't you say you had a couple with your DP last night and you still feel a bit ropy?

Deffo diggums idea. If one of my friends used the antibiotics excuse everyone would automatically assume pregnant.

Champagne - I was working last night so they'll know I'm fibbing otherwise that would of been a good one. I would tell them, but hubby and I have decided to hold off telling anyone until Christmas day and as hubby is the worst at keeping secrets but promises to keep this one, I feel I have to do the same!

I think I'm going to go with Diggum's suggestion but also say I think I'm coming down with cystitis, which they know I need to be cautious about because I have kidney problems.

If they are your best friends then just tell them?

If you are going with antibiotics, best one to say is metronidazole which is often given for gum type infections. That's about the only one you really can't drink with and I'm sure most people wouldn't question it if you are specific...

Fake drinking is better than an antibiotic excuse (which will be seen through).

And a few wet-your-lips type of tiny sips will look convincing and the amount of alcohol getting in to your system from that is so minuscule it's nothing to worry about.

People pay far less attention to what someone is actually drinking that you think. It's only because your attention is focused on it that you're even thinking about it.

Another think you could do is get a preprandial G&T that is actually plain tonic, and take it to the table with you. Then you can say (if needed, which it probably won't be) that you want to finish that before starting on wine.

Co Dydramol you're not allowed to drink on, they're a pain killer (I've got them for after migraine pain)...anything hurt?

Thanks for all the tips ladies... said I had cystitis and when the wine was poured at the table had a half glass and they both turned round and said 'Are you pregnant!?' I replied with 'I wish...' and they left it, but they did both then start going into 'are you tracking your ovulation' etc and recommending kits... so I kind of got away with it, but felt seriously uncomfortable talking about it all...

One awkward night down, just a few more to go...

I'd pour a glass of wine, and have a few fake sips, and if anyone asks why you haven't finished it, say it isn't very nice.
But if you make sure everyone else has a full glass, no one will notice that you aren't drinking yours

In the same situation I told my girlfriends I had a massive hangover and couldn't touch a drop.

I just say/ said " i just don't fancy it" especially as you're driving i wouldn't make a thing of it

I think the fake g&t or vodka and Coke is always best in this instance. It's instead of wine as 'wine has been giving me bad headaches lately' and If you're driving, you can only have the one anyway and no one will be any the wiser.

I had this problem too, but in Scotland where I live, the drink drive limit has been dropped to very low, so that you can't even have a small glass of wine and drive. I just made sure I was the driver, and nobody could say a thing! I did have to come clean at my sister's hen though as it was a whole weekend, and nobody would have believed the usual excuses.

For future excuses, you could always say you are seriously TTC and trying out a very strict regime of clean diet and no booze?
