I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Another vote for omeprazole here!
reebok hope today goes well for you, sorry to hear about the constipation :( I'm part of that club too now - didn't realise how much it hurts. Literally! Hope schools going ok.
spandau your consultant sounds like he's quite good - steroids do wonders for a lot of people.
lucinda it's amazing how people think diet will help! I had a dietician come and see me before I left and it was all crackers and ginger!! Just bit my tounge.
My due date is 11th may :)

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 27/11/2015 10:49

'But why didn't you change our diet? Why don't you tell the other women that?' omg lucinda.

headdesk

What, from the barely 3 mouthfuls a day diet to the no-food-at-all diet?

I remember someone telling me to eat spinach to protect against spina bifida during my first preg. Yeah, right. SB is an awful thing, but ... what can you do when you can't keep anything down?! You feel terrible for not eating the 'right' things but there's absolutely no choice and people just don't get that.

spandau1980 · 27/11/2015 11:12

My stomach won't tolerate much at all... was thinking complan drinks ??!! Anyone???

Feel like crap got daughters cold .
Been offered flu jab but don't think I want it feeling so run down ...
What if it makes.me more poorly ??

I'll ring doc about omeprazole ... consultant didn't seem keen just rantidine sigh x

spandau1980 · 27/11/2015 11:13

Oh change my diet ... why didn't I think of that .... duh ... god some.ppl really are thick

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 27/11/2015 11:21

spandau try anything that you think you might keep down!!

the HG may get worse during the cold, be warned; but the temporary downturn will pass.

MotherofPearl · 27/11/2015 13:09

Hi All. Argh, Lucinda, that's so frustrating! In my last pregnancy someone helpfully lent me a CD all about 'natural pregnancy'. I got in a rage and stopped listening when they said 'if you are experiencing vomiting and nausea in pregnancy, it is usually the result of an unsupportive diet. If you increase your intake of fruit and vegetables, it will resolve.' What a load of b*llocks!
I've had a busy few days. Was DS's 4th birthday yesterday, so have had a lot on and am now feeling very tired. Still have his party to get through tomorrow. It's at a play centre, so thankfully won't involve lots of work, but still not an ideal environment for someone battling constant waves of nausea, and having zero energy.
Sorry not to reply to everyone's posts but feel like I need to have a rest before I face the school run a bit later.

Reebok · 27/11/2015 16:17

Haha Lucinda! The person who said that to you needs a slap. Someone said to me today, your body clearly can't handle pregnancy. They weren't trying to be mean but it made me cry as that's what I feel like...I get sick or I miscarry. My body feels like it isn't made to carry a baby.

Can you gp prescribe it to you Spandau? I was offered steroids at one point too. They're meant to be really good for some women. I said no though as it puts me at risk of gd because of my ethnic origin.

So glad it's Friday. I have no energy. This commuting is killing me...I get on the underground and national rail and it's the constant changing/not always getting a seat...2 and a half hours of my day spent on travel.

Tomorrow I'm going to attempt seeing my mum. Since I've been back at work, I stay in bed at weekends as my body gets so weak by Friday. Quite scared! Sounds silly doesn't it.

Hope everyone is managing ok today.

spandau1980 · 27/11/2015 16:26

Constant acid reflux and cough because of it... I m petrified I'll get oesophagus cancer or somat !!
My mind is in over drive ... I feel sooooooooo ill. Shivering too with achy legs so caught a bug. Fantastic. Still getting banging headaches ...
Wanna curl up and sob n sob
My body can't handle pregnancy either reebok
Yet I keep putting myself through it.. wish ppl would keep their opinion s to themselves .. fancy saying that to you - like you need any more kicks in the teeth !

Called gp s today blimey don't you love the gate keeper receptionists grrr
Yes I'd like to speak to or see my gp before next yr grrr

MadrigalElectromotive · 27/11/2015 16:42

After my post last night I just had a massive meltdown on DH who made me ring the gp this morning and explain just how bad things are to him. He's signed me off for another two weeks which takes me to the end of term, and I can't tell you what a relief it is. Have also increased my ondansetron today to try to see if that helps so now I'm taking 4mgx3. Fingers crossed.

Ill try to come back later to do a proper catch up but just feeling horribly sick at the moment and don't have the energy at the moment. Thanks to Mother Hen and Meer for talking some sense into me last night. Thanks

LucindaE · 27/11/2015 17:44

spandau You poor thing; a bile run and a virus on top of the rest. Some people have found that complan type drinks help, so it's worth a try. I'm sure you won't get cancer from the acid, though. I remember I thought I would get stomach ulcers from it. Excuse my ignorance - what's a cpn? and Reebok what's gd? You lot are too knowledgeable...Reebok Ah, it's bad someone said that. Your body may not sail through pregnancy as do some (and they should be grateful for their good luck) but you can handle Hyperemesis, teaching, a long commute, and looking after a tot at the end of such a day. I'm far from sure many women could, so well done.
Madrigal I am so glad you are signed off for a couple of weeks. Rest is one of the best medicines.
OnceAMeer and Everyone Ha,ha about from Three Mouthfuls To No Food At All Diet.As you know, the unhealthy foods and drinks sufferers have to eat (when at all), such as sips of flat coke, crisps, chips, ice lollies, jelly, cheap ice cream, tinned fruit and its juice and horrible take aways are what we all live on normally.
Ican't It's amazing they sent a dietician to tell you that.
Iam and Charlie I'm happy to her of reduced vomiting. anyway.
MotherofPearl What a self-righteous sounding tone that CD had.
Apologies for rudely ignoring anyone.

reebok people seem to tell me the same, like mother hen says they should be grateful to carry "normally". Hope tomorrow goes ok.
spandau sounds like a really tough time :( I really do hope things improve.
madigral I'm glad your dp made you see GP and your signed off, you really need it. Flowers
lucinda I was astonished! They were discussing a feeding tube but apparently I should be fine with small amounts of ginger and crackers. Angry

MadrigalElectromotive · 27/11/2015 17:53

Lucinda my due date is 30th May if you want to add me to the list. Smile

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 27/11/2015 18:49

iamdivergent · 27/11/2015 20:54

Oh my due date is 22 June though 11 may would be amazing Smile

spandau1980 · 27/11/2015 21:51

I'm moving up the list.... means I slowly getting thru this pregnancy.
That's it after this one.. tubes tied womb removed lol

Sat here with hunger /acid/ pain should I eat ? Or risk sick or worse risk bile later again...

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 27/11/2015 21:57

spandau I always say if hungry eat, I find "food" sick better than bile Grin

MadrigalElectromotive · 27/11/2015 21:59

I think I must be a freak because I prefer bile to bringing up food. Confused I do force myself to eat in spite of that though!

iamdivergent · 28/11/2015 08:35

I also prefer bile to food sick.

I'm not sure what to do, I'm not feeling bad in general when I wake up but I don't know whether to just keep taking my tablets (I have taken this mornings already) or to have a trial run without, may move onto 1 a day after lunch - should I speak to Dr about this first? I going to have to see him next week as I forgot to repeat order my prescription and Dr is closed Monday (st Andrews day).

What would you do?

CharlieHamer1985 · 28/11/2015 09:26

So yesterday was a pretty good day. Felt the nausea for most the day and then it went. Went to the ball and managed to sit through a meal and keep it down. Just had the annoying acidy stomach thing. Its just so weird how some days u think its wearing off and then other days ur back to being awful again. Does make me feel anxious going out. Im due 3rd May. Reebok i cant wait for 20 week scan to see that baby is ok. Also looking forward to finding out if its team blue or team pink. My gut feeling is it is a boy.

Rantidine is pretty rubbish. I use to take omperazole quite regularly from where i had gastric bypass done and it is better stuff.

spandau1980 · 28/11/2015 09:52

Is it just me or does everyone else seem to be getting better and I'm not ?
Just threw up brekkie again ...
Granted I'm on no anti sickness meds and stopped them Monday as they didn't seem to be making any odds now.

Does anyone's food seem to sit in their throat more than go down properly and cause gagging n then sometimes puking ...

Can't believe when I first stepped onto this thread I said I didn't wanna seem a fraud as never really accepted I had HG Previously but boy do I accept it now .

Was thinking I'd be well by Dec to enjoy Xmas and the food and the socialising ..
Well I've got til Monday so this HG better do one iv had a guts full ...

amysmummy12345 · 28/11/2015 09:56

Hey all! Another week nearly done, 12 weeks tomorrow... Which means 6 weeks of hg so far 😌 managed another week at school, was meant to be finished there yesterday but they want me to stay another week 😠 glad of the steady income though... Reebok I salute you! Glad you got signed off madrigal, waves to everyone else xx

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 28/11/2015 10:37

spandau I'm in the not getting better club , day 2 home and back to constantly throwing up already :(

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 28/11/2015 11:11

iam suggest you try missing one tablet and seeing how ti goes. (what are you on again sorry?)

Don't be surprised if you take a bit of a step back. But if you feel okay, then try again tomorrow. Just keep them on hand :)

icant oh god, please please do get back in touch with the hospital when you need to.

charlie grats on the ball! encouraging to at least be out and about again for once =)

amys does that mean next week is your last week at school for a while?

spandau ... improvement is different for different women. Rough that it's still that awful by now :(

some people have actually found it helps to consider HG life the new normal, and think of any good day as a bonus. Think you can only really do that once the very worst of it is over though!

iamdivergent · 28/11/2015 12:20

I'm on metoclopramide 2x per day

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 28/11/2015 12:55

worth trying then. Meto works by helping your stomach digest faster so there's less to upchuck.

Cyclizine on the hand works on the whole body and gently squashes your body's overreaction to the preg hormones, as best I understand it. So sometimes if people stop that, it can set them back further than they expect.
