pregnacare - help please!

Hi all, I found out on Sunday that I am pregnant (nearly 4 weeks) and I bought some pregnacare plus which has two tablets to be taken each day.

The problem is that the brown folic acid tablets are HUGE. I have real trouble swallowing tablets and I panic every single time I need to take one.

The question is, would it be ok to break them in half before I take them?

Thanks in advance!

I guess it would be fine - I had awful issues with pregnacare (including highlighter yellow pee!) so ended up just taking a folic acid and vit D supplement from Superdrug as you get all of the other vitamins from your daily diet and the pill is very little and easy to take!

I'm sure it would be fine! As pp has said however really you just need to focus on vit D and folic acid (both of which can by bought separately and are very small tablets), so if you don't get on with pregnacare you might want to just think about buying those.

Thanks for your reply Smile

I might just go and get some smaller tablets then because this is going to be an ordeal every day otherwise!

What mg tablets do you take for folic acid and vit d? I really do feel so much better knowing there are smaller versions.

I found folic acid on its own in Tesco. I was taking pregnacare but I'm sure it was making the nausea worse.

these are the ones I take - www.superdrug.com/Health-Offers/Superdrug-Vitamin-D-%26-Folic-Acid-x60/p/261700#.VksQGnbhCUk

10ug of Vit D and and 400ug Folic Acid which is the recommendation - hope it helps!

Thank you scoop! I am going to try the boots own brand ones I think. Apparently they are small Smile

I have the seven seas vitamins and my DH has to break them in half for me or I end up gagging on them which is usually followed by a toilet hugging session!

wonkylegs · 17/11/2015 12:58

Mine are prescribed (high strength) but when there was a mix up and I had to buy some to tide me over a few days the morrsons ones were quite dinky and easy to take.

TheLuckDragon · 17/11/2015 15:11

Thanks all! DH ran out and got me some of the boots own brand which are tiny Smile

I started out taking the Solgar ones, which are quite big and I found them hard to swallow - have since switched to the Boots ones with ginger which are easier to take. One tip - take them in the evening rather than the morning, I found they were less likely to make me gag then (may have just been the morning sickness) and take them with a glass of milk or juice if you find the taste of the pills is unpleasant.

I think pregnacare have just launched a liquid version if you find that easier:

I just took the boots folic acid and vit d tablets in the first trimester. Then Sanatogen Mum to be for the rest, seem to remember them being smaller than pregnacare.

hootintootin3 · 19/11/2015 20:19

pregnacare do a liquid vitamin too, 3 for 2 in boots :)

Etak15 · 19/11/2015 20:22

I hated pregnacare - gave me diarrhoea! I used to take sanatogen instead, can't remember if they were smaller though, I think so.
