Warning: gross post! I gave birth 4 days ago (emergency c section) and only had 2 poos since. First 2 days ago was normal but today's was like a black/green colour and thick, very unusual and bit scary! Is this normal?! Help!

Are you on iron tabs? I was like that too, if had a c-section and was on iron. Don't know which caused it!

2 poos in 4 days is normal for me so, I wouldn't be worried but from the sounds of it it isn't for you. It is normal to be constipated following surgery and pain killer can make it worse. Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids and eating fiber rich foods to help it on its way. Also you get get lactulose from the chemist if you are struggling.

And black poo could be iron, could be that it's been in their a while or could be old blood - from internal piles or such. Should calm down.

Thanks guys, just googled it and yes I think it's the iron supplements. 2 poos in 4 days isn't particularly normal but my main concern was the colour. Apparently iron tablets can make poo black/green so at least I know it's normal, I freaked out!

Sounds like an iron poo!

Constipation is very normal post partum.
It's great you've actually gone. Lots of women take daaaays to go.

Please try not to worry. You've enough on your plate.

Congrats on your new baby!

Ah, x-post. It'll be the ferrous sulphate

Juno has given textbook advice. :)
