Blood sugar level high? help please!

Hiya guys!
Wondering if anyone can help, I'm 32 weeks pregnant..got routine bloods done a couple of weeks ago and results have come back with my blood sugar level at 7! Saw the midwife today and she explained that it's probably nothing to worry about but have to go back for repeat bloods on Tuesday! Can anyone shed some light on whether this is classed as high or not cos I'm confused..midwife was a little bit vague and it's not until now that I'm home and thought about it I have all these questions!!

Hello! I have gestational diabetes and I don't think a reading of 7 is too high, but it depends on when you last ate before the test. Were you given a sugary drink beforehand?

Hiya thanks for replying, no hadn't had anything sugary that day, got the bloods done at 9.30am so had only had a cup of tea, without sugar..xx

I have type 1 diabetes and aim for between 4 and 7. 7 is not high at all, especially if you had recently eaten.

It doesn't have to be anything sugary. Carbs will raise it too.

7 is the top end of normal. It's certainly nothing to be getting round up about.

I hadn't recently eaten though not since the night before..hopefully it's nothing to worry about then, suppose it's better getting it checked again though just in case xx

Not at all getting 'round up about it' was just asking people's advice as in my previous 3 pregnancies had never had this happen before that's all..

I had a blood test come back and my reading was 7 I was sent for glucose test and turned out I had GD as like u I hadn't ate from the evening before. 7 is normal but if u haven't eaten it's not normal as if you were to eat it would rise more. Ask them if they are going to do a GTT

If it was a fasting blood test (you'd not eaten or drank anything since the night before) then 7 is on the high side. My fasting bloods are supposed to be under 5.3.

Wasn't a fasting blood test just hadn't eaten since the night before as I don't usually eat breakfast till after 10..
What is a gtt?
I have to go back on Tuesday morning, fast from Monday night and go in first thing for a blood test, they r going to give me a sugary drink, leave me two hours then test again..
Should add that my urine is clear there is no sugar in that

How recently had you drunk your tea and did it contain milk (which has sugars in it)?

If it was immediately before your test, that sounds quite normal.

The levels I aim for is less than 5.5 when fasting of before food (typically it is around 4.5) and below 7.8 an hour after eating (typically I find it is around 6-7).

If it had been a couple of hours since your tea you may have developed gestational diabetes. At 32 weeks they would probably look to have you control it with diet and possibly oral medication. You would probably be induced early (38-39 weeks) and have growth scans to keep an eye on the size of the baby.

If you had only just drunk your tea, you may find all is fine though. Just milky tea would raise your blood sugar a bit.

Note - I'm not a medical professional but I am an insulin controlled diabetic, I developed gestational diabetes with my first and it never went away.

What you are having done on Tuesday is a GTT glucose tolerance test. It tests for gestational diabetes

GTT is a glucose tolerance test.

They take the fasting blood sugar, make you drink glucose (a bit like Lucozade but not as nice) and test bloods two hours later. They are looking for 5.5 or less fasting and 7.8 after the two hours (at least those are the figures my healthcare trust use).

It would have been about an hour before, had a small amount of milk in it as I like my tea strong,
Fingers crossed that the tea is what did it, will find out on Tuesday..my mum does have diabetes too not sure if that makes any difference, I'm not too worried about it to be honest as I know it can be controlled just wanted some opinions/advice of people who know more than me..:)

Ah right I see, ok well that's what they r doing Tuesday anyway, fingers crossed it comes back fine then..

My Mum has diabetes too - it can be hereditary.

If you only had a small dash of milk and it was an hour beforehand you may well find that you do have GD. It's nothing to panic about - you'll just be moved to consultant care and have extra appointments. It's easy enough to manage.

Yeah well think it's a possibility but if so they will treat me and all will be fine I'm sure..I'm already under consultant and am booked for a section already at 39 weeks so I'm not panicking about it just glad it's been noticed :) thanks uv been really helpful! :) xxx
