thermometers - how many different ones do i need?!

I've got a basal body temp thermometer.

Can it be used for the following reasons:
when i need to take the baby's temperature?
when i need to take the temperature of the water in the baby's bath?
for monitoring the temperature of the room she sleeps in, as per anti- cot death advice?

I don't know Bertrand. The Dr had to pin DD down to take her temp when it was 39.9 with a nasty infection.

Thermometers are one thing I have yet to buy (and I'm 41+1 so guess I'm not seeing them as top priority!)
I'm first time mum too but I trust my instinct well enough to not want thermometers when mothers have safely raised their babies for centuries without them.
Bath - use elbow / wrist
Room - judge, but should be cool, probably cooler than we'd think
Body temp - baby will give off other signals they're not well and have a temperature other than just being hot

All the above has been experienced first hand from my mother who had my sisters when I old enough (13) to learn as well as mum being a midwife.

That all being said we will look to get an ear thermometer soon for ease.

Bertrand you'd think so, but she's even like this when her temperature's been over 40. She's strong-willed and only likes the thing when she's taking Mummy's temperature with it...

The non contact one from boots is expensive and inaccurate please don't waste your money!
