Dc1-went with a pop and a big gush in my sitting room during labour - I managed to jump off the rug onto laminate floor. Dd was born about an hour later.

Dc2 - waters went about 6 hours before contractions started, a really loud pop as I sat on sofa. Only my trousers got wet though as I went to the loo sharpish.

DS1 in hospital (ARM)

DS2...I don't remember them going at all. Either they went during labour and the midwives were super efficient at cleaning it up or I was leaking amniotic fluid in the weeks up to the birth (and not pissing myself due to a knackered pelvic floor as I thought).

They didn't break - three times the midwives had to help.

Gushed out over the bed whilst I was watching ER ( many years ago )
24 hours later DS was born

Then 2nd time arond , just before DD was born , the waters broke and she came out all lovely and clean

In a friends living room we'd been invited round for a curry, jokingly they said we'd get the baby out and 2 hours later water broke thankfully managed to get off the fabric sofa just before hand and they had wooden floor!

In birthing pool first two times. And had them broken for the next two as my contractions had weakened. Both DC were out within 2 hours after.

Just as well, really - I'd got so blasé about them never going that I hadn't bothered with mattress protector for DC3 or 4!

I had a fear of them going in public or on the bus or something.
As it turns out I was at home settled on the sofa for the evening contemplating having an early night.
They started as a trickle and then er, loads! It was then I knew I had to ring the midwives Grin

At about 4am in bed with no real warming at all. I was awake and felt a pop and gush. I was 38+6, and my DS was born about 22 hours later by EMCS as I didn't go into labour and they didn't want to induce me.

I had a real fear of them going unexpectedly and my DH thought I was being silly as it isn't that common but I proved him wrong, HA!

First time - broken as part of being induced

Second time - in bed. Felt a pop, jumped out of bed and made it to my rug and grabbed the two towels from the radiator. I soaked the lot!

In the bath at home. I was in there to ease my contractions and felt a pop.

I was halfway up my stairs and felt a gush of water. I know a woman who had a waterfall moment in her local chippy :)
Fingers crossed it happens at home again for me this time

Went to bed thinking "I'll put the mattress protector on tomorrow" (37+3)

2 am went to the loo, was just about to finish up when I felt a pop and a massive gush - handily everything went in the loo! 30 mins later contractions started. DS was born at 5.20 am. Shock

While I was putting washing on the airer, not a gush but rapid enough to get to a room that wasn't carpet!!

Just before delivery all three times.

With DC2 the midwife just chose the wrong moment to bend down to have a look at how things were going, and got a faceful of amniotic fluid, poor woman Blush

I'm another one who popped in the face of a midwife, the feeling of relief was enormous. DD was born 20mins later.

DC1 - broken 20 hours after I was induced. A trickle rather than a gush
DC2 - burst in the face of a MW who examined me at the wrong moment. DS was born about 15 mins later, just as the MW came back in the room having gone to get changed.

A colleague's waters did break at work. I thought I saw a really pregnant person rave past my office but dismissed it as I didn't think anyone that pregnant could move that quickly. Heard the next day that she'd been doing her handover noted to her boss as she was 37w & it was her last day, felt a bit damp, realised what was going on & dashed to the loo, running past my office on the way. Her son was born that evening. Her's is the only one I've ever heard of which was anything like the movies.

On the loo on the evening I finished work at 36+6 on a Friday night at 7.45pm ... Halfway through preparing dinner... Heard this loud bang from inside ... Thought the cat had fallen into the bath... Dribbled out water into a pad as wasn't entirely sure!! Then the dribble just kept on coming and coming.......Contractions kicked in by 8.10 pm in a taxi by 9pm...6cm by 10.30pm. Delivered at my birth centre pool at12.21am - dribbling waters throughout until he popped out!

I was in bed....
Midwife had told DH and I that sex can be a good way to get things moving...so that's what we did.
I stood up to go to the bathroom and felt a tiny trickle...which embarrassingly, I thought was baby gravy Blush
Turns out it wasn't. My waters had broken...was kind of like a slow puncture on a tyre, was veeerrrry slowly trickling for ages and ages. And then DD moved so she was blocking the tiny hole in the sac! Had to be induced in the end because nothing happened after that!
