Hi, I know everyone is asleep but I need a distraction... About an hour ago I think my waters might have started leaking/trickling. A couple of little gushes, then a steady trickle which has now calmed down.. Then when I wiped there was a definite pink tinge and a small blood blob. and now back in bed with period like pain.... I'm 36 weeks and saw the midwife on Wednesday and the baby wasn't even engagaged so surely this isn't IT? Everyone says you just know..... I wish these things came with clear instructions! Hmm

Well it was it! Was 3cms by the time I got examined but then didn't progress much at all and his heart rate was all over the place so was rushed for an emergency section at 7pm. He's perfect, a bit early so smaller than we were expecting but 6lb6 so not bad at all for 36 weeks. Hopefully we will be home tomorrow, thanks everyone for your kind words and thoughts Smile

Oh wow. Congratulations.

My DS was born in a similar fashion. Had my 36 week appointment, he was still high and not engaged. My waters broke that evening and after 38 hours of labour, weird progress and some heart rate tomfoolery, I had an emergency section. He was 6lbs 13oz.

It might be worth knowing that when your waters break first, it can often be because the baby is in an unfavourable position and your waters are breaking because of this, not because you're labour ready. You often see a pattern where you don't progress well and the baby might show signs of distress and often it comes from the baby just being in a tricky position.

I don't know if that helps. I know, having had two emergency caesareans that I always wondered why. My consultant was the one who mentioned that my waters breaking before contractions started might have been a sign that their position was wonky well in advance. Certainly, dd was in a terrible position and got very stuck, ds never even engaged, even after 38 hours of labour. They were both quite distressed by the labours too and that was just them being squished.

I hope you don't mind me rambling. I just know after having mine, I always wondered if there were any reasons for how it went.

Congratulations on the birth. He sounds dinky and lovely. Take care of yourself. Peppermint water is fab for trapped wind following the emcs and brace before you cough or sneeze.

Well done!
