Missed miscarriage - how long to bleed?

I'm almost certain I miscarried this pgncy. I have been testing over the last few days and the line is almost non-existant from a very strong line I had about 3 and half weeks ago following a bleed. I have a scan on Friday so will know for sure, but I'm getting my noggin round the loss of this pg even tho it was a complete shock. I have been testing as I just felt too well to be pg - no sickness etc ( i only say this as all 3 of pgs were awfully sick). Anyhoo my question is, how long to bleed and get rid of it which I somehow want to do, or will I have to have D&C?

Thanks for replies.

i am so soory you are going thorugh this.
Are you bleeding now?
Not sure how long it takes, me baby had dies at 6 but didnt know until 10 so 4 weeks and still nothing had happen.I had a missed misscarrge and the only way that i suspected something that was wronge was that i had 1 small spot of blood on a tissue.. thats it nothing else. I opted for a D& C as i felt that i could handle that better.
Wishing you all the Luck in the world for friday xxx

Thanks tickle (great name!) No not bleeding now but I did about 4 weeks ago for about 4 or 5 days and then it just stopped. I feel like I'm on a bit of a roller coaster emotion wise as it was a shock, got myself happy about it, but now almost sure it is not right. Thanks for your reply - I thought it could take a while to bleed.

When I had a missed miscarriage I bled for around 5/6 days.

When I had implantation bleeding I also bled for around 5 days.

Hope its the news you hope for on Friday

I bled for almost 2 weeks. I don't think there is any definate amount of time, as long as its not too heavy.

mrspf · 06/12/2006 14:28

I bled for about 5 days, but I think it can depend on how many weeks pregnant you are. I was only 5 weeks.

I was booked in for a scan at 6 weeks, but didn't need it as the pregnancy test they did was negative so they said it had been a complete mc so no need for a D&C.

Fingers crossed for your scan.

hi niceglasses, how are you ? xx
Good Luck tomorrow

niceglasses · 07/12/2006 17:20

Hi, ahh thanks for asking. Really touched. Erm, did another test today and it was negative, so guess thats it. Can't believe your body can hang on to something for so long. It was about a month ago I first got a (very clear) positive. Off for scan tomorrow. I kinda hope things would happen themselves but looks like it wont.

At least it gives me time to think about whether a 4th child is really what I want. Sad but philopsophical or however the hell you spell it. Thanks again for thinking of me.

As I suspected - early missed miscarriage. Luckily though they don't think I need a D&C - most has gone - just a small amnt left, so if no probs, its just carry on. they took some bld just to check levels. Gonna take this time to think about things. Only lost it a bit when sonographer was looking for something - thinking back to the happier times when everything was okay with the other 3. Still, very lucky to have my 3.

Many thanks again Tinsel.

sorry to hear this. .
Luckily we now have an adorable dd and baby 2 on the way in Jan BUT prior to this I went through x2 mc's.....

The first was a missed one. I never had an idea until we went for the 12 week scan and everything seemed to pass in a blur. Basically "baby" was there but the hb wasn't . They think this had happened at around 9 weeks so my body held onto "it" for around 3 weeks.
I didn't need a d&c but did go into hospital for the tablet to help things along on the basis that if it didn't work then a d&c would be needed. The 2nd dose of tablets worked. Strange that my body didn't get rid of anything until medical help was given..bizaree...Must admit I wasn't prepared for what happened after..

Hope you are ok and as well as can be. Hope your future works out whatever you decide. Sadly the loss never leave me. I think of it on a daily basis.xxx

dear Niceglasses

sorry to hear your news. I had a missed mc in April, got pg the very next month, which was amazing as the baby we lost took a year to conceive. Apparently this is very common, hormone levels are high post-mc. just a thought which might help you - although nothing ever makes up for these losses. if you decide to ttc again, there is great support on the ttc after mc thread, then the pg after mc.

good luck to you, and take care.

my baby had dies at 9 weeks but i didnt find out till 12 wek scan when there was no heartbeat, i opted for the d&c as it had already been 3 weeks and nothing had happened so i went with the op to get rid of it as i couldnt bear to carry a dead foetus around ..
