Hi guys, I am new to this so really hope you can help me....I have just found out I am 8 weeks pregnant (which I'm so shocked about as have no symptoms) I am looking for some reassurance as I have been smoking about 6 cigs a day but sometimes 1 and sometimes none (as I am not a heavy smoker!) I have had 4 miscarriages 1 being a mmc at 14 weeks when my baby died at 9 weeks so am petrified I have done some damage or even worse killed my baby!! Sad I guess I'm am also worried as I don't feel pregnant! I have obviously quit smoking now and have had no bleeding but just wanted to see if any of you have done this and babies have been OK? Thank you xx

Try not to panic. I was drinking a fair bit before I found out I was pregnant and I've had no problems so far! There are people who do far far worse and their babies are fine. We had a private scan at 7 weeks to put my mind at rest. As for having no symptoms - there are a lot of women who don't and have healthy babies too! Flowers

Hi, I only found out a week ago that I am now 10 weeks pregnant. Up until that point, I was having a couple of glasses of wine a night (more on the weekend) and smoking on the weekends too. I had no symptoms, and obviously stopped as soon as I found out. Like Cfmrf, I paid for a private scan this week as I'm having to wait a couple of weeks before my midwife appointment, and it came back normal. I am worried too, I just wanted to let you know that there are people in the same boat x

Hi SarahM333, congratulations on your pregnancy and thanks so much for your answer. I feel a little better knowing you did the same and your results came back great! I have been told not to worry too much as the baby feeds of the yolk sac at this age and not from the mother but didn't know how much of that is true?! I really hope this baby sticks around and due to my miscarriage history I have been booked in for an early scan tomorrow so fingers crossed everything is OK and my little peanut is strong! Xx

Just wanted to say it's brilliant that you've stopped smoking- it's hard! And also that I also drank heavily before positive test and also had early reassurance scan and all fine. Have no doubt it will be for you too :-) congratulations!

You're 8 weeks in. 32 to go. Look how many women carry on smoking or drinking and go on to have healthy babies. And up to 6 cigs a day for only 6 weeks of actually being pregnant is so unlikely to have done any permanent harm!

I drank and smoked for three months until I found out I was PG when I quit straight away - my DD is the smartest kid in her class and incredibly fit and healthy despite thinking I'd done serious damage at the time.

Chances are you will be fine!! But quitting smoking and drinking is the best thing to do now.

FX for the rest of your pregnancy.

Thank so much for the reassurance mummybex1985 and thanks for telling me about your past pregnancy and lovely daughter. I have a scan tomorrow so fingers crossed all will be OK and I'm just worrying for nothing! Xx

I found out I was pregnant at 6 months no symptoms at all, I was drinking and had the occasional cig too (socially) and my baby was perfectly healthy, it's funny to think I was out in heels and a dress clubbing at 5.5 months pregnant. I did feel guilty for weeks after I found out but if you don't know you can't change anything. And most of all don't feel guilty now you know you have stopped which is more than most can woman do, my sister being one of them!! I'm sure your baby will be perfectly healthy Flowersxx

May I add actually I was only out for my X mas party and funnily enough I did go off alcohol for a while before I found out which I found unusual HmmWine lol X

kirstyjbarnes89 · 28/10/2015 21:39

Aw bless you cgow and thank you for sharing your story with me, you are a sweet heart! I do feel better knowing that other mums have done the same and have been fine! Xx

Yeah it's so true it's not about what you did when you didn't know, this is what my midwife tried to drum in to my from the day I found out! You have made the right choice by stopping which like I say so many women can't do! Just focus on the positives and enjoy your pregnancy everything will be fine xx
