Just for fun - Baby's heart beat at 16 weeks

Just seen in my notes that baby's heart beat at 16 weeks was 136bpm. Old wives tales suggests a boy. We are not finding out the sex so another 20 weeks wait for us (currently 20 weeks)

What was your baby's heart beat at 16 weeks and did the old wives tale over 140bpm for a girl and under 140bpm for a boy work for your baby?

Sorry to burst the bubble but I had 148 and am expecting a boy! Also had bad ms and developed a sweet tooth which both suggested girl but we've had it confirmed at 2 scans that it's a boy!

Midwife told me this too when the heart beat was 130bpm, but when I checked my notes, the previous time it had been 156bpm, which is a 'girls' heartbeat (supposedly). So I have no idea.

I'm 22 weeks and am having a boy heartbeat last time checked was 150bpm, I think I read somewhere that it varies up and down anyway so all depends what the baby is up to when they take the reading

ThePug · 27/10/2015 13:26

Mine was bang on 140 bpm at 16 weeks so gave us no clues. Had my 20w scan on Friday and........it's a boy! This fits with me having zero sickness and craving cheese/salty foods. Bump seems to be low and all out front too. On the other hand, the nub on 12w scan was definitely straight (but did have some 'thickening' at the end which apparently indicates boy) and his skull is round not angular.

I'm not really 'craving' any foods at the moment so can't use that for a wives tale Halloween Grin

my DS heartbeat always suggested girl, that was wrong! Do you think the food cravings are an indication for anything? DS I craved anything juicy and fruity in the first trimester, this time (9 weeks) I have done nothing but crave carbs and salty food!

maybebabybee · 27/10/2015 14:49

Mine is massively high (around 160bpm at 20 weeks) and is a very definite boy!

maybebabybee · 27/10/2015 14:49

Oh also, I had loads of sickness and craved sweet things, so all old wives' tales were bollocks for me

SmileAndNod · 27/10/2015 14:50

DC1 130 bpm pretty much all the way through - boy
DC2 140 every time when taken - girl
DC3 varied between 140 - 148 - girl

Midwives correctly predicted sex every time!

5madthings · 27/10/2015 14:52

I just had 16 wks app, heartbeat was 150 but midwife said whilst nearer to the end of pregnancy the heartbeat can indicate boy or girl that it doesn't work early on in pregnancy....

I don't know what I am having and won't be finding out.

ALR123 · 27/10/2015 19:47

I'm 29 weeks gone now and we haven't found out the sex, but baby's heart beat has always varied between 125-165! So I definitely can't use this theory Grin

sepa · 28/10/2015 07:01

Well seems like it really is a crappy old wives tale! Lol Halloween Confused

We're not finding out either. Heartbeat was 148 at 25 week appointment. Midwife said the old wives tale was a load of rubbish.
