How soon can you hear the heartbeat at home?

I have an old pinard horn - fetoscope/ear trumpet - that we used the first time round. I am 16 weeks and due to very lopsided bump, am able to pinpoint baby so we listened tonight and DS (4) said he could hear "beep beep beep beep really fast!"

DP also said he could hear it, much faster than my own heartbeat. Could this old trumpet thing actually be picking up the fetal heartbeat this early?

Yes. If you have it in the right place. They can pick it up from around 12 weeks.

Aw, brilliant! Thanks! I can definitely feel where baby is already - my bump is totally on the wonk!
