Hi ladies had my 20 week scan today and I wanted to find out sex. When she looked she said 'I think it's a girl'.... Ok you think then after a while she looked again and said 'yes it looks like a girl to me but we can never be sure until baby comes out'. I know there not aloud to say it's 100% as she admitted people try and Sue. Just want other people's storys as I'm planning on buying a lot of pink ??????

If you want an actual gender scan then get one done privately, one that is specifically looking for the gender. Your 20 weeks scan on the NHS is an anomaly scan, they are looking for specific things to do with your baby's development and are focused on that rather than the baby's genitals.

Private clinics, which do specific gender scans have a lot more experience at looking at bits and will be able to give you a more concrete opinion on the gender before you go out and buy a lot of stuff!

I know 2 people who have been told the gender at their NHS scan and they have been wrong, one was told a boy and had a girl, one a girl and had a boy!

My mum knows 3 people who were told the wrong gender-you can pay for a private scan I think. Xxx

If buying the right colour stuff is your biggest worry you are a very lucky woman!

I meant worrying that I've bought everything pink and would have to exchange once baby is born. Didn't mean any offence maybe should of used a different word

Probably that she and her partner had planned for the wrong gender in all aspects. Decorating, naming, telling family and friends and then having to go back on their word. A plethora of things, some emotional, some practical. And that's without the pregnancy hormones influencing things like gender disappointment.

Plenty of things to worry about when it comes to gender as an expectant mum. All normal, none a crime.

There was no need to be so self righteous about gendered colours. Regardless of what you think, this is OP's baby and that is OP's choice.

My friend was told she was having a girl and ended up having a boy.

We've found out and been told we are having a girl - in fact 3 separate sonographers at 3 different scans have told us it's a girl but because we it happened to someone else we know we are taking it with a pinch of salt. And we are fine with that.

a friend of mine was scanned every 2 weeks from 20 weeks due to her first having a few spinal problems, she was told it was a girl at every one until 34 weeks when the sonographer was insisting it was a boy, had a private scan that night to determine and was in fact a boy (now 18 months, definitely a boy) and the added expense of then re decorating the room and preparing their DC1 for the change and the trouble of going to the shops and explaining and exchanging everything, including gifts they have already received. I knew what you meant by "worrying" so ignore some of the unnecessary and uncalled for comments.

I will be having a private scan at 17 weeks (couple of days before Christmas) and will be surprising family and friends on Christmas day, NHS scan will be mid January, if they say they disagree then will book for another private (no I am not made of money, but if planning on buying and decorating for a certain gender, its best to be on the safe side)

there was no denying DS1 as both my NHS 20 week scan and 28 week private scan the first thing that appeared on the screen was his erm .....you know what! good job we wanted to know!

Thanks for the support ladies I know how some people are went for my private scan and she said its most definitely a girl, even showed me her bits and everything so let the pink shopping commence
