The WORST thing you bought for baby? (What can I cross off my list...?)

Really finding the 'best things' thread useful, but I'm equally keen to cross anything off the baby shopping list that I'm not actually going to use!

So what did you buy for your baby that you've since decided was not worth the cost/space/hassle?

I'm not so much looking for bashing of particular products, more guidance on which generic items you found unnecessary in the end.

Didn't buy it thank goodness was given it - a nappy bin that wraps all the nappies in a long sausage before you empty the whole lot on one go. It stank the room out! Went in the bin shortly after the nappies!

Oh I came on to say nappy-wrapper-bin-thingy too!

Bottle warmer. Pointless. Couldn't work it properly half the time. A Pyrex jug with hot water out the kettle did the job just fine.

Generally these threads divide opinion. But nappy bins, changing units, baby baths and thermometers for the bath feature highly!

Baby bath - just get a bath insert for your normal bath. Door bouncer - too fiddly to use often.

We probably didn't need a baby bath because we had big babies who outgrew them and moved very happily into a normal bath.
We wouldn't be without our nappy bin but I know others think they're not worth having.

I paid to hire a TENS machine. The instructions were terrible and it caused a lot of unnecessary stress while I was in the early stages of labour. I won't bother for DC2.
I also won't be using the baby bath, hooded towels or the steriliser.

Bumbo. Moses basket. Bath thermometer. Baby Bjorn carrier. All either utterly unnecessary or other versions are better.

Baby bath, jeez. Kitchen sink MUCH handier!

Nappy bin - awful. Just put in a normal peddle bin and empty daily.

Expensive 'nursery' furniture - seriously?! £2k on a cot/wardrobe etc? Find what you like, then get them second hand on ebay for a fraction of the price. Buy a new mattress. No one is any the wiser. And it will be immaculate.

Bottle warmer - pointless. 30 secs in the microwave works just fine (yes yes yes, I know you're not supposed to, but once you get past PFB you realise it works just fine so long as you swil it and test!)

Fancy baby monitors with alarms etc etc. FFS. They're supposed to move in the night. Do get one with video though. Then when you hear crying, you can assess on the screen first before going racing in.

Baby bath - agree, pointless. Ditto agree with hooded towels. I bathed my two in the sink then just in the normal bath.

Nursing chair. £170? No. You really don't need one. If you absolutely must, get an IKEA Poang for £45. Or sit on the settee or stay in bed.

Bottle warmer. Almost bought one of those baby alarm things but the one I wanted was oos. Handy as it would of been the least needed things - babies have HUGE lungs!

Moses basket and crib. Dcs refused to sleep in them. Went from co sleeping to cot.

Chopped handles off moses basket, removed hood and it's now a cat basket for our cats. They love it

Oh and mobile for cot. Just kept them awake.

Baby gloves (the silly little ones for newborns). They don't stay on and they don't really need them anyway.

Snowsuits!

Can't wear them in the car, can't wear them in the sling, don't need them in the carrycot. I've had two October babies and an August baby and I've used the same one a handful of times. Probably not even that.

Baby changing unit I did use though, saved my back.

Agree about nappy bag. Also that top and tail bowl thing. How I agonised about that lol, ended up buying one from a charity shop and used it about twice.

I liked having a baby bath and used it every day. Also used a steriliser.

Oh yes, baby changing unit. Again agonised about it, ended up getting a second hand one from eBay and never used it aside from storage. Directly DS came home he was always changed on the floor, it just felt safer.

I just came on to say snowsuits too newton !

So cute but unworkable in practice.

I'm actually so embarrassed about this that I should probably name change...

Don't get me wrong, I love the highchair, but this wildly expensive piece of plastic was useless, it added nothing to our lives and was almost impossible to get off the table, so when you did manage to pry it off, it flicked everything all over the floor.

We used it exactly once and then I put it away and in the end threw it in the bin cause it was just taking up room I needed for other things.

Moses basket - both of mine hated it.

Ditto bottle warmer and baby bath.

I used my bath thermometer religiously for both DCs. Retrospectively, I can't really see why.

My son was always in snowsuits. I have tons! I loved them got wearing in the pram as I never had a foot muff or cosytoes. They were never exceptionally padded though so we did let him wear them in the car seat

Oh, and any clothes for first 3 months (at least) other than vests, sleep suits a couple of cardis and a seasonally appropriate hat.
