Oh shit possible food poisoning and smear test at start of pregnancy

Background is it took 15 months to conceive DD, then 6 to conceive again. The second pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 6 weeks. That was the middle of August. I had my next period as normal. This one was a week late and I just did a test as I'm going on holiday Thursday and Its positive! I REALLY didn't think I'd get pregnant that Fast.

My problems are - I had a bout of D&V (possibly from chicken not defrosted properly) on 5th October and a smear test on 15th. Shit

Any advice? I'm 2-3 weeks according to ClearBlue

I think ur fine it's normal to worry about it because uv miscarried so recently for peace of mind ur best going to see ur doc they will reassurance you hope u have a lovely holiday and good luck with your pregnancy :)

Don't worry. Smear tests are safe during pregnancy so you're ok there.

As for the food poisoning, at this very early stage, the foetus wouldn't have been affected by that at all. So you're all good.

I was told not to have smear tests during early pregnancy so might be worth checking

I keep seeing conflicting advice on smears. I don't think there's any chance of getting a doctors appointment before I go now (I leave really early Thursday morning) although my docs office was great when I miscarried.

I think with the smear test there's no risk to you or the baby it just gives inaccurate results? So you'll probably need to have another one after the baby is born.

Hughpughbarneymagrew · 20/10/2015 15:48

My smear is due while I'm pregnant. Midwife just told me to wait and have it 3 months after the birth.

SinkyMalinks · 20/10/2015 17:40

Smears are safe, just give (possibly) inaccurate results - like pp said.

Try not to worry and enjoy your holiday!

I've been pregnant in both France and the US, and in both places had a smear test in the first few weeks. Both were surprised that we don't do it in the UK, as is a British gynecologist I know, who says it's fine. It's more that the result may be inaccurate, as pp have said. I'm sure everything will be fine!

I had a smear 5 days in (unknowingly) with my 2nd pregnancy. He's 3 years old now Grin

Try not to worry op.

I had hideous d&v at around 4 weeks (found out I was pregnant a couple of days later) and all was well. The baby is just a bundle of little cells at such an early stage so I reckon it'll be absolutely fine :-)
