I'm currently being tested for this due to a maddening itch all over my body. My latest blood test results have come back a little concerning and I have to be retested later in the week. Does anyone have this condition. Or had it in previous pregnancies?

I had this in my first (only) pregnancy. Discovered at 36 weeks with itchy feet & shins. Itching like nothing I've ever known before. I had vit k tablets, an extra scan just to check baby's growth. Had some extra monitoring then they induced at 37 weeks. My induction was a really positive experience & very quick with no intervention beyond the initial pessery. My ds was/is absolutely perfect & itching disappeared immediately. Had to have an extra blood test about 10 days post birth.

How are you feeling op? In hindsight I was absolutely exhausted in the last weeks of my pregnancy, long before the itching started, but didn't did know any better.
Fingers crossed for you that it's not OC but wanted to let you know it's not necessarily awful if it is.

I was diagnosed in my first pregnancy at about 25 weeks. I had such high liver function scores that they thought I had liver failure and I was admitted as an emergency. This was 16 years ago and teh condition wasn't recognised as well so I was lucky to live near to one of the few hospitals then that had a specialist in the condition and I was very quickly seen by him and had tests every week from then on. I was treated with ursodeoxycholic acid, the dose of which was increased weekly. I was then tested weekly, had extra scans and induced at 37 weeks. Baby fine and the itching disappeared immediately after birth.

Then with second pregnancy (12 years ago) I was immediately transferred to consultant care and treated with the same drug, had extra scans and induced at 37 weeks. Baby was fine and once again the itching disappeared immediately.

Good luck and I hope all goes well.

Doctors think I had OC with my liver results,

I barely had any itching but was utterly exhausted. Meant a blood test every week to check levels & bile.

I had steroid injections at 32 weeks as initially the bile was too high. Vitamin K tablets daily then induction at 37 weeks.
Very fast only needed pessary.

Hi ladies. I feel completely exhausted but I am also suffering from hyperemesis and my blood test has showed a low red blood cell count and abnormally low harmatocrit count which I guess could suggest anaemia. Yet to discuss it with my doctor. They tested my liver function. In Feb this year my ALT level was 14 and now it is 47 where the upper level is apparently 53 so it's concerning me that it's risen so much. I've yet to speak to my doctor but have booked my repeat blood test anyway. I'm glad to hear that it doesn't have to be awful if they tell me at some point in the pregnancy that I do have OC though. Can't wait until I get to feel better.

Good friend had it. Told her to call her doc immediately. She didn't so I phoned the next day and made her go to her doc. They induced her that afternoon at 34 wks. It is usually a case of close monitoring and early induction but they do try to get you as close to 38-40 wks as possible depending on your level if it. Don't worry, if they know you have it I'm sure they will look after you and baby carefully.

I couldn't sleep last night with mad itching - feet, ankles, then my bump, this morning my hands.....aaargh! Stupidly googled Confused so got a doc's appointment this morning. She took a blood sample, prescribed me some cream to ease the itching. I've to phone back Thursday for the results. Sad

I had this with my pregnancy. Itchy legs and arms at 34 weeks. Diagnosed with blood tests. I had to go to hospital every other day to be monitored and I was put on Ursodeoxycholic (sp?!) acid too which bought all the levels back down to normal. The consultant I had was brilliant and very reassuring and the plan was to induce me at 38 weeks. Everything progressed as normal then (apart from having to drive to the damn maternity unit every other day!). Unfortunately the induction didn't work - nothing would shift DS! After a week of trying, by which time I was 39 weeks, we decided the best course of action was a C-section. Which was fine! And DS arrived safe and sound! The only problem we encountered was the first doctor in the maternity unit, who hadn't read the notes and tried to send me home as she didn't know why I was booked in for an induction at 38 weeks! We soon put her straight Wink
