When did you feel a proper kick in first pregnancy?

Hello all,

I have been feeling my baby move for a couple of weeks now (I'm 21 weeks, first pregnancy) and have noticed it more regularly and stronger over the last couple of days. At the moment it feels a bit like someone blowing bubbles inside my tummy (if that makes any sense!).

I just wondered when I'm likely to feel a proper kick that my husband will be able to feel too as I feel he's a bit left out at the moment but more because I can't wait to experience it!

Thanks
Panther

25 weeks over here. I think the week most quoted as feeling them from the outside is 24. Wheb you feel them from the outside also depends on where your placenta is. I'm 26 weeks and can't feel all of them from the outside, only a few.

I felt the first tiny wiggles at 16 weeks, but it took me a while to be sure it was the baby as this is my first and everyone said it was too early! It felt like a little fish moving about in there, very low down, and soon became unmistakeable.
My husband was able to feel some movement about a week or two later, but it had to be very well timed as the movements didn't happen often, and they were very tiny and only when I was lying down! He managed to feel a coupe of movements (we were both really excited!) then nothing again for for a few more weeks.
I started being able to actually see movement when I was lying down in the bath (with the light shining the right way) around 20 weeks.
The baby's movement only really settled into any sort of predictable pattern I was familiar with from about 28 weeks. Now at 34 weeks it tends to be on and off most of the day and night, and looks like something out of the film Alien through my belly!
I think I probably felt movement so early as my placenta is high up and at the back, so all the movement was at the front. Friends with placentas at the front didn't feel anything until much later. Everyone seems to be really different.

I'm 21 weeks and felt the first kick from the outside a couple of weeks ago! I can feel them occasionally but baby usually stops kicking if my other half pops his hand on my tum! Most unfair!

RedZeppelin · 14/10/2015 16:25

I'd say you're close Panther

I felt it much earlier with my second (boy) than with my first (girl) (can't remember when exactly). I'm now 27 weeks with no. 3 and you can now see my stomach move when the baby gives me a proper pounding and DP has been able to feel the kicks for about a month now.

Thanks ladies, you guys rock.

Amazing to see how everyone seems to be really different!

The baby has been doing lots of stronger bubbles today hence I hope I am close to a proper kick!

I am so excited I can't wait!

I felt wiggles at 17 weeks and hubby felt I proper kick at 20 weeks.

Sighing · 14/10/2015 17:20

For me I started to feel movements from 17 weeks. For someone else to feel it - I was 24 weeks in my first pregnancy.

randomsabreuse · 14/10/2015 17:22

20 week scan - she booted the probe!

TheFatSister · 14/10/2015 17:24

At exactly 18 weeks I felt 4 clear little taps on the inside of my belly. She's nearly 4 now but I remember the feeling so clearly.

catbertha · 14/10/2015 17:32

I'm 24+3 weeks and it was only a few days ago that I could feel it externally. But then my placenta is at the front, so most of the movements are either low down or at the edges. I think where your placenta is positioned makes a big difference.

Junosmum · 14/10/2015 17:53

I felt it at 14 weeks, husband at 17, but even at 26 weeks it's still hit and miss for him.

sepa · 14/10/2015 19:29

I'm 19 weeks and still at the stage of not really knowing if I have felt anything. From my 16 week heart beat thing it doesn't seem as though the placenta is at the front as the sound was really loud. Even the bits that I think is the baby doesn't happen everyday. I want to start feeling something Confused

tinymeteor · 14/10/2015 20:35

First bubble-bursty kicks were just after my scan, so about 20 weeks. I remember people being able to feel good walloping kicks from outside about 4 weeks after that

GoodnightDarthVader · 14/10/2015 20:36

My husband felt a kick at 21 weeks :)

Panther79 · 15/10/2015 10:19

Oh wow so many replies!

Thank you all for sharing your experiences and comments, much appreciated as being a first pregnancy, I really don't know what to expect and what not. It's been very helpful.

It's amazing to see how it differs from person to person!

Good luck to all!

I felt my first kicks about 20 weeks but dp only felt baby kick this week (24 weeks) most because every time he went to feel she stopped moving lol.

cth1982 · 15/10/2015 11:29

I felt the first kicks at around 18ish weeks (first baby) am now 29 week and my husband has been able to feel little movements from around 23 weeks and now is regularly kicked in the head when he listens into my tummy!

clarabellski · 15/10/2015 11:41

Mine is more of a wriggler than a kicker at the moment. You can see the shape of my bump altering but not kicks as such. I'm 23+3. It started off around week 16 as the bubbles you described OP.

middlings · 15/10/2015 15:26

I first felt DD1 kick at about 17 weeks. DH got booted by her at 21 Grin. Was very funny to watch his reaction.

However DD2 was a REAL wriggler and a summer baby so I was in t-shirts. I remember him looking horrifiedly at my belly in the evenings after dinner as she had a bit of a rumba and limbs were appearing all over the shop. She's 2 and hasn't stopped moving yet Grin.

Oysterbabe · 15/10/2015 21:13

I felt my first proper kick at 20 weeks. Husband felt his first kick at 22 weeks.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 16/10/2015 09:46

From about 17 weeks I had the bubbly feeling. It was 20 weeks at my 20 week scan that she properly kicked me. She didnt like the ultrasound much.

CaptainKit · 16/10/2015 11:27

I'm 22+3 and have been feeling definite kicks for a week or so now. Felt very sporadic possible kicks before that, but it's only recently that baby's picking up a routine - in the evening, an hour after eating and/or just as I'm lying down in bed.

I haven't felt anything over the skin yet, my placenta's high and at the front, so that might be a bit in the way.
