No 2 is now 3 months and really want to get pg again as would like small gaps between my kids. Is it completely impossible to get pg when bf? Any views/experiences to share?

No it is not impossible - I got pregnant B/F when no 2 was 7 months old. Baby number 3 was induced 5 weeks early because of complications so there are 15 months between those 2 which I think was a really good gap. Only drwaback was that I was really sick for 17 weeks so didn't enjoy my existing baby as much as I could have if I hadn't been pregnant. Just something to think about.

I did it after about a year of trying (and dd was 14 months) and had to cut down my feeding, but as soon as got up the duff carried on as much as before. Some people seem to be able to manage it without cutting back as much, but I was dowm to one feed a day and there it was! The only drawback is my breats are so senstive - it hurts when she latches on. GOOD LUCK

No definitely not impossible. Friend has 2 kids 13 months apart to prove it. 1st fully bfed.

LucieB - I fully breast fed ds and got pregnant when he was 6 months old after a few months of trying. With only 15 months to the day between them it was very hard work but the short gap means they're much easier to manage now. Good luck!

Sure its a myth that its not possible to get pregnant when fully b/f, I have two friends that have nice surprises! with only 14months apart their children. Good Luck

My dr warned me that you can you get pregnant whilst breast feeding.
And Dh was conceived whilst mother in law was b/f . there is 14 months between dh and his brother.

didn't Jules Oliver get PG when breastfeeding no 1??

Ghosty · 15/05/2004 08:10

My sister was born on my brother's first birthday and my mum was breastfeeding .... Go for it LucieB ... you are very brave!!

Thanks - but my periods haven't restarted yet and didn't last time until I had stopped bf ds (at 16 weeks). Then took several months to conceive which seemed an age. Hoped for a shorter age gap and hoping the same this time but don't want to stop bf quite yet. Its a bit of a dilema really....
Thanks for all your replies

Thanks for all your replies - bet it takes a while now but fingers (not legs ) crossed!!! I am determined to keep feeding dd for a while yet as its going so well so might not get the small gap I am hoping for....

I got pg when dd was 1, I was still bf twice a day and got pg the first time we tried...now have a 20 month gap!

SO, not impossible!

mumbojumbo · 20/05/2004 10:25

Hi LucieB

I fell pregnant with ds2 when ds1 was 13 months old. I was (and still am) breastfeeding him. There is 23 months between the two of them.

I breastfed throughout my pregnancy and am feeding both sons. ds1 is now 2.5 years and ds2 is 6 months.

It is possible! Hard work, but possible!
