20 week scan... At 22 weeks?

Hello. As the title suggests I was checking the date the hospital booked for me for my 20 week scan and I think I'll be around 21/22 weeks by that point. Seeing as this is the anomaly scan, should it been bang on the 20 week mark or is it the norm to have a couple weeks either way?

They do it at 22 weeks typically in France, so I assume its not a big deal.

My hospital did it at 22wks as I think they said results were able to be more detailed and accurate at that stage.

I went for mine at 20weeks but they had to redo it at 22weeks as DD wouldn't get in the right position.
The sonographer said it was actually better to do it at 22weeks in terms of getting the measurements etc.
I suspect one of the main reasons they do it at 20weeks is so you have more time to make any potentially difficult decisions or have further tests, should a major problem be flagged up - but I could be wrong.

It doesn't have to be bang on 20 weeks and can be done anytime between 18-24 really. The only reason they usually do it at 20 weeks is as a PP said - so that you have time for any decisions to be made if any problems are found

I had an early 19 week anomaly scan and was told perfectly healthy baby girl, all good.

Had another scan at 21.5 weeks (hormone issues so regular scans) that picked up 5 soft markers for T18.

I would say the later your scan the better as it's much easier for them to pick up potential issues

My anomu scan was at 22 weeks which seems to be pretty routine for my hospital talking to other local mums to be. Everything seems later this time including midwife appointments than with DD 3 years ago!

Brutally, I think it depends if you would abort for abnormalities. If you would, 20 weeks gives you more time. At 22+ weeks any decision will need to be made with incredible swiftness.

Sighing · 05/10/2015 18:06

Mine is 21 weeks. Any time between 18-22 weeks seems suggested by my info from midwife.

Thanks everyone, sound advice as always

Pottering that's not entirely accurate. it's was what I was worried about waiting for our T18 diagnosis but terminations for medical reasons are classed differently. Depending on your reason for a termination those pregnancies and babies with a 'lethal' diagnosis can be terminated right up till term.

After 21 weeks the procedure is slightly different. Ideally an anomoly scan at 20 weeks is best, that way if something is wrong and you do decide on a tfmr you have the option of not having an additional (distressing) procedure.
