Hi, Im currently 26 weeks and have been getting a weird 'digging in' pain under my right boob mainly but all around that area. Thought it was bras digging in but happens without them. Also makes it really uncomfortable to sit etc. Then last night on top of sore throat and cold...started burning a bit and felt throat even more sore with bit of pain...like burning...in the middle.
Kept me up ALL NIGHT :( Not so bad today but wanted to ask has anyone had this 'digging' tender-like annoying pain? Is this related to the heartburn? I've never had heartburn so have nothing to compare it to! I took gaviscon too but it didn't really help with this tender pain. It's driving me nuts! Its like i want to keep walking and stretching for fear of it getting too bad... :/

Well heartburn and indigestion is a night mare so could be that. I'm a bit further that u at 31 weeks and baby had her head near hider my right ribs which hurt like hell. Baby could be pushing up making you tender and giving u heart burn. Speak to your gp or midwife if your concerned

I have terrible heartburn but no 'digging' sensation - could be a tiny foot or fist!! If your baby has been sitting high up (I think mine's been lower down) then s/he will be squishing your stomach, causing heartburn. Hormones also contribute as they relax the valve at the top of your stomach.

For me, the heartburn is literally a burning sensation in the sternum area - just between and above the boobs. Makes me burp a lot and if I'm really raging a bit of acid reflux can come up. Nice.

I have had gaviscon liquid prescribed but the dual action tablets are also useful to have about your person. They are chewable and taste ok. A glass of milk can also help (and will help with your calcium intake!)

I get terrible acid reflux and have with all three of mine. I'm currently 27 weeks with number three. I get a tightness in my chest too and a pain in the back of my lungs (so I feel it in my upper back) I've been sucking on antiacid tablets, sipping water making sure I stand and breathe properly and also I've been using my pregnancy ball alot. I lean on it with my chest have my knees on the floor and rool this way and that (make sure legs are apart for stability) this helps the baby move and give great comfort.

I would have a chat with your midwife and see what she suggests. Don't be scared to ring her that's what she's there for.

I've had really bad indigestion to the point it was triggering asthma attacks/wheezing. Consultant prescribed ranitidine which has made such a huge difference to my life.

The digging pain could be the ribs stretching/ being poked?

I used to have a gall bladder and that often resulted in heartburn as well. Another pain of that (for me) was a sensation that something was in the way / underneath my right shoulder blade. When it was mild I often thought I'd pulled a muscle in my back there as it was like a 'knot' of pain.
It was not always accompanied by the burning sensation. This was during and after pregnancy.
Heartburn can cause some of these sensations - but your midwife may well provide more reassurance.

I have horrible heartburn and reflux like all the time since around 25 weeks and I also had/have that digging sensation but with me it was/is baby wedging herself under my ribs, it hurt like hell!

mumchkin · 05/10/2015 02:40

Yes I have both symptoms too (27w) but I don't think they're related. The reflux/heartburn is very bad at night and really only the hardcore Gaviscon liquid helps. The rib pain they think is either my liver being pushed up into my ribs or a little foot. I have been seeing an Osteopath who kind of pushes things around to clear space around my ribs which has helped no end. Might be worth a try if it turns out your pain is caused by the same.

When was your last ante natal check? Has the pain started since then? In some cases a bad pain in the ribs or top of the stomach can be a symptom of pre eclampsia, even if you don't have any other symptoms. A quick urine and blood pressure check with your midwife will confirm if this is what it is.
I had pre eclampsia in one of my pregnancies and this was the only symptom that I had, I didn't realise that it could have anything to do with pre eclampsia, I just thought that the pain was due to the baby getting big and pushing against my ribs and I felt a bit silly making a fuss about a bit of rib pain, but in retrospect I should have seen someone much earlier than I did.
my pain was just under my right

PurplePoppies · 05/10/2015 04:40

boob and was bad enough that all bras were uncomfortable to wear and I was taking paracetamol every 4 to manage the pain. I don't want to worry you unnecessarily, but I wouldn't want anyone else to experience the same as I did just from not knowing that this could an a symptom. Please see your midwife com fingers crossed it just results in a conversation about ways to manage heartburn and baby kicking your ribs.

Please get advice with this, op. I cannot state that strongly enough. It could be a symptom of HELLP.

This type of abdominal pain, often called epigastric pain or upper right quadrant (URQ) pain, is usually under the ribs on the right side. It can be confused with heartburn, gallbladder problems, flu, indigestion or pain from the baby kicking. Shoulder pain is often called “referred pain” because it radiates from the liver under the right ribs. Lower back pain is different from muscle strain common to pregnancy, because it is usually more acute and specific. Shoulder pain can feel like someone is deeply pinching you along the bra strap or on your neck, or it can be painful to lie on your right side. All of these pain symptoms may be a sign of HELLP Syndrome or a related problem in the liver Here

Description of HELLP

I had HELLP as well as PE so definitely agree with differentnameforthis

differentnameforthis · 07/10/2015 03:11

Just wondering if everything is OK, op?
