I'm hoping there are a few ladies out there who may be able to share their similiar experiences ... Both good and bad I guess.

By the date of my lmp I am 8 weeks pregnant today. On Tuesday (7+5) I went for an early scan and was devastated to be told the baby is only showing at 5 weeks. All looks good for this particular stage, gestational sac, yolk and 3.3mm fetus. no heartbeat though, which is normal for this sized baby but not for where I thought I was in the pregnancy. The options are either my dates are two weeks out and I'm therefore a lot less pregnant than I thought... Or a missed miscarriage. The two week wait until our next scan feels unbearable.
Has anyone else been out by two whole weeks or am I clutching at straws? I had only been off Implanon for a few months and had three 'periods' only one of which (the last one) was a full red flow. I stupidly told the doctor that these were regular (28) but now I think back I actually had no idea if they were proper periods and I wasn't testing for ovulation. I had spotting which I think was implantation bleeding the day before I tested three weeks ago.
Any shared stories greatly appreciated. If it is a mmc what can I expect?
Thank you

Sorry I've not quite been in your position but have been in the position of waiting for bloods and scans to confirm a MMC and its horrible.
Sounds like you have been quite irregular which could mean your dates are out.
When you tested 3 wks ago what test did you use? Was it a strong positive or faint? If you used a really sensitive test and it was faint (so picked up the pg as soon as was possible) then you may only have been 3.5 wks then, which would put you at 6.5 now, just over 6 wks on tue, so your scan was only a wkish behind. Early scans are notorious for being out on dates. Everything is so tiny and it also depends on the position of the embryo, such as if it is slightly more curved etc. My sonographer said 7 days either side can be expected. So if your dates are slightly out, then it could be ok. I hope your next scan shows a little hb. Have they mentioned about doing hcg? xxx

Did you track ovulation in any way? You might remember when you had ewcm or narrow down the window by when you dtd. My cycles were very irregular coming off the pill and I have PCOS which makes them more so. I knew I'd be at least two weeks behind the '28 day cycle' thing because I knew I'd ovulated later in my cycle.

CarShare · 01/10/2015 08:50

Just to add- I had to be quite assertive with this as the sonographer was sure I was two weeks behind where I should be at a nine (actually 7) week scan but I knew that this wasn't the case. I very much hope all works out well for youFlowers

docmcstuffins1 · 01/10/2015 08:57

I had an early scan and was told I was 6 weeks (I had no LMP to date from so we used this as my actual gestation), at my '12 week' scan I was actually 13+4 so the early scan had measured me 11 days earlier than I actually was - don't lose hope!

NoodieRoodie · 01/10/2015 09:03

I was fairly sure of my dates but at my 12 week scan I was only measuring 10 weeks so I had to go back 2 weeks later to be rescanned. DC3 arrived a week early (so more in line with what I'd thought) and is currently 4 weeks old and quite perfect!

MrsGlam · 01/10/2015 09:11

I had this..I had an early scan when I thought I was 9+1 I was put back to 7+1 when I got to my 12 week scan I was then put forward to 14 weeks! Dating pre 12 weeks is so unreliable, Try not to worry although I know of course you will!

Thank you everyone for your lovely responses.

I use the ovia app and I did note that on CD18/19 I had cramps and left pelvic pain. I originally thought this was when I implanted but perhaps I was ov? Which makes my spotting 8 days later make a bit more sense now I think about it properly. I used a clear blue digi the next morning and got a 1-2 week result but only after a loooooong wait so I'm hoping against hope that this meant I had quite literally conceived a week before and caught the very first possible whiff of HcG. Is this possible 24 hours after implantation? This is the trouble with early testing. So confusing and maybe I'd have been better to just wait for my 12 week scan. This is my first pregnancy and had turned my normally sensible self in to such a worrier.

Ps I have had a blood test and need to go back in a week for the second one. I guess that will be a big indication if all is well or not

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this. It is truly horrible. I measured a week behind at an early scan and sadly it didn't end well for me.

Waiting for the next scan was horrific...but I found the support and hand holding from these boards absolutely invaluable. Make the most of them. I have everything crossed for you.

Hairballs · 01/10/2015 09:34

Why do you have to wait a week for the blood test? They should be able to do two HCG tests a couple of days apart?

ktkaye · 01/10/2015 09:59

Not sure. That's what the GP said. I got the impression she was placating me more than anything...

I am sorry to hear you are going through this.

I was two weeks out from my dates and found out through an early scan. Although I did not get a positive pregnancy test until I was two weeks late I found this hard to believe as I am normally so regular. This would have meant that I ovulated when my period which was actually due which made no sense to me at all! What made it worse is I thought I might be having another MC as when doing clear blue tests I didn't seem to be moving on in weeks according to their readings. I was convinced that my HCG levels weren't increasing.

Due to a previous MC I had an early scan which did indeed put me back two weeks in line with the tests I had done. The early scan dated me at 7+2 not 9+2 but at that stage I did have the reassurance of a heartbeat. I was then scanned again two weeks later and this showed a normal two weeks growth which was really reassuring.

I am sorry that you don't yet have this reassurance but don't give hope. Flowers

It's so hard isn't it. And especially when you're not in control and just have to 'wait and see'. It makes the whole thing even harder. Maybe you could call and try and get a follow up test sooner if that would help you?

Thank you for your sympathy; I'm 24 weeks with a baby I fell pregnant with very shortly after I MC'd, so if the news is not good for you (which I REALLY hope it is) then there is definitely light at the end of this horrible tunnel.

I'm the same as you in that I'm normally very sensible but when I was waiting to know the outcome of the second scan I was just a mess. couldn't eat, couldn't sleep...it was shit. These MN boards were a lifeline. If you can, and I know it's not easy, try and find lots of things to distract yourself with.

I had an early scan around 7weeks after bleeding and they told me the amniotic sac was too small and they would scan again in a couple of weeks. It was a very long wait, but the second scan (internal) was amazing and the baby waved!! He's now nearly 10!

ktkaye · 01/10/2015 17:57

Thank you everyone for your kindness and positivity.

Hair - congrats on your baby, fingers crossed that the next few months go smoothly.
I'll try and post an update in a few weeks. Hopefully one day someone will read my story and find comfort as I have in other people's. Xx

I measured 10 days behind at my first scan but there was a tiny little heartbeat there. It turned out I must have ovulated at a weird, late time -- I just had my scan at 19 weeks and he's measuring within a few days of date. Glad the husband and I do the deed a lot, or we'd have missed our window for sure.

Smartiepants79 · 01/10/2015 21:12

Well my sister has just had a MMC. She should have been 9 weeks but scan showed only around 5/6 weeks. A second scan a week later confirmed the pregnancy wasn't growing and she had a D&C.
I hope you have a more positive outcome.

Whatapavlova · 02/10/2015 10:29

I'm another one who had to have an early scan at what I thought (knew) was 7 weeks and was told I was only 5 weeks but everything fine for that stage. I was very anxious up to my 12 week scan, also my first pregnancy, and am now measuring back on track with my dates. So hopefully you'll have a similar outcome!

BadgerFace · 02/10/2015 13:10

As you are recently off Implanon your dates could easily be out I would think.

I went for an early scan when I knew I was either 5+6 or 6+5 and had similar to you in that they could see fetal pole and sac but no heartbeat. The doctor was fairly reassuring and said everything was in proportion and there was no bleeding so it was probably just too early so I had to wait it out for a week. All was fine in my case, it was just too early at the first scan to get the heartbeat, and I am 26 weeks now.

GOOD LUCK. The wait is horrible but really wishing you good news at your next scan.
