Peanuts - will you be eating them during pregnancy

The big peanut question. I forgot to ask my midwife on the peanut debate. I know they have recently decided that peanuts are fine to eat in pregnancy now. Will you be eating them during pregnancy?

How did they suddenly go from they are bad to they are ok?

I ate peanut butter through both pregnacies 18 an 20 years ago. Ds 20 has nut and seeds allergies. He did have a reaction to peanuts after the other allergies started at 4 but he grew out of the peanut one by 12. Dd never had any allergies at all

I love peanuts in any form, preferably as peanut butter, or in a satay sauce or at the centre of an M&M but DH has a severe peanut allergy and asthma on both sides. None of the healthcare professionals could be 100% sure there were no hereditary factors.

I avoided both while pregnant and breastfeeding with DD and she has no allergy at present. She isn't mad keen on peanut butter but loves peanut related chocolate products.

DD1 is 4.5yo and it was fine to eat peanuts when pregnant. It was also fine to give from 6mo.

There was a huge study done involving populations in Israel IIRC, where peanuts are a staple food. Their incidence of peanut allergy was so much lower than in populations like the UK where women had been advised to avoid peanuts in pregnancy, that the advice was changed almost immediately.

What pacificdogwood says basically about peanut and allergy. I think it's Israel they based it on where they eat a lot of peanuts? Most Chinese cooking use peanut oil too. And my Indian friend says they do the same back in the continent. (Not Chinese cooking in the UK since ground nut oil is very expensive here).

It's hereditary as far as they think and eating it or not during pregnancy probably doesn't cause it. I'm from Hong Kong and they have almost no peanut allergies. No one avoids it. I laugh every time I read here how all the airlines have stopped serving peanuts. No all the Asian airlines still do.

If both sides of the family dont have peanut allergies, it's fine to have.
