Ok, I'm 7 weeks today. I'm classed as infertile so this is a massive shock!
On Thursday I had brown gunk that normally have at beg of period. I had a scan and they could see heart flashing all fine. Brown spotting is still going and was heavy ish (just when I wiped) last night. Should I phone again or not.

I feel almost travel sick. I have no pleasure in eating (I love eating) is this normal for the morning sickness feeling to be all day?

I am shattered my 2yr old ds (adopted) is still snuggled up in bed with me watching ipad. Is this OK?

My mom has basically told me our life is over we can spend no money ever again. Is a newborn really that expensive?

Can you tell I'm panicking a bit??

It can be normal to bleed a bit when it would have been your next period. I think unless you have pain/red blood then having seen the heartbeat, you don't need to worry.

The travel sick all day thing is exactly what I have. Don't hesitate to ask the GP for medication. There are lots of safe drugs to take - it will probably get worse over the next few weeks, but it is apparently a sign of a healthy pregnancy.

It's my first so I don't know the answers, but I was exhausted too, and resting helps with the sickness.

I only have one DC and so can only speak from limited experience but I had this too and everything was fine. In fact he turns one tomorrow!

Newborns are only as expensive as you want them to be. We bought lots of stuff second hand (apart from car seat and cot mattress). We asked parents etc for gift cards for Christmas which we then used to buy bits and bobs too - I remember buying an activity mat and most of the car seat that way. It depends on your tastes, I have no issue with supermarket stuff (in fact our favourite baby blankets were bought from us from Aldi) but if you are a fan of labels then ebay is your friend.

Iloveonionchutney · 26/09/2015 11:28

The brown stuff is old blood, as long as it's not bright red and there no pain I wouldn't worry about that.
'Morning sickness' is a ridiculous name, it can and does last all the time but you can see your GP if you are really struggling with it.
If your 2yo old is happy then you'd don't need to worry about him, you need your rest and to take it easy a day of cuddling and watching films won't hurt him!
Your mum doesn't sound very supportive, you already have your son so know children are expensive but you find a way to manage and they don't have to cost a lot (when their little anyway).
You'll be fine, it's a big shock to get used to Flowers

First of all congrats!

  1. Brown spotting is ok. I've had it in this pregnancy and have also seen the heartbeat. Been told not to worry but I know it's hard.
  1. All day sickness is normal. 'Morning' sickness is a load of crap! I have hyperemesis (severe sickness and nausea) so I'm on medication to control the vomiting and help me keep a little down. If you find you are unable to keep anything down including water, you may be developing hyperemesis and will need to see a doctor for help.
  1. Perfectly fine for your dc to watch iPad/cbeebies constantly...if that's what helps you go for it. I'm unable to look after my dd so she spends most the weekend on the iPad...luckily she goes nursery 5 days a week so gets stimulated in other ways there. It won't be forever and your dc will forget.
  1. Newborns can be expensive but you just need to be wise with your spending. Get the necessities.

Pregnancy sucks. It's hard but in the end you will have something you love unconditionally. And a little sibling for your dc. Good luck x

ALittleFaith · 26/09/2015 13:36

Were you in the hut of doom and gloom with a slight variation on your name?

I had all day nausea, ice lollies were the only thing that helped. Chilling with your DD is fine! Having a newborn isn't necessarily expensive if you pick and chose carefully and buy second hand where you can. Congratulations! Thanks

I love food but in my first trimester I could take it or leave it, I had to force myself to eat something and got no pleasure fro. It. I felt constantly sick, sick of I didn't eat, sick if I ate, was actually sick if I ate too much or too quickly. Was awful.

As for expensive, so far we have bought everything except mattresses and car seat second hand. Got 90% of babies stuff , all in excellent condition and for about £500. And not all essentials either, so could have done it cheaper. One friend of ours however spent £5k on baby stuff, but refused to buy anything second hand and picked expensive stuff.

Congratulations.

I found wearing sea bands helped a little with the sickness. It was worst in the morning, but lasted all day. You can wear them to do virtually everything. I know they don't work for everyone.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

delilabell · 27/09/2015 08:08

Thanks everyone. The bleeding stopped yesterday afternoon so fingers crossed is settling down.
I'm trying to keep calm about costs, we've already got highchair, pushchair for when it's older, cotbed. So I think moses basket, a comfy chair thing and a pram/car seat are all the big things we need. Never thought I'd be in this situation!
I was on the hut about 3 years ago alittle but with quite a different name.

Our DS refused to sleep in a moses, he slept in the carry cot of travel system and then a proper cot. You don't need much.

Scarydinosaurs · 27/09/2015 13:32

How blinking exciting for you!

I had bleeding from my cervix, my consultant was able to tell me where my bleeding was coming from with a scan and internal. Did you tell them you were bleeding at your scan? Were they able to see where it was coming from? If not, that's preferable as it probably means it's from your cervix.

I feel almost travel sick. I have no pleasure in eating (I love eating) is this normal for the morning sickness feeling to be all day?
Unfortunately this is normal. Try and stay hydrated. Your GP can prescribe anti sickness meds, although many won't. This website is very helpful.

I am shattered my 2yr old ds (adopted) is still snuggled up in bed with me watching ipad. Is this OK?
Totally. Whatever gets you through the day. The first trimester is exhausting.

My mom has basically told me our life is over we can spend no money ever again. Is a newborn really that expensive?
They can be, or needn't be. Yes, if you dress them in Ralph Lauren. No if you shop at charity shops. Many stages in between. Biggest costs though are loss of earnings and childcare. Many people find that childcare for 2 is more than their salary. I did, but stayed at work for the pension, camaraderie and to stay in my niche job.

Can you tell I'm panicking a bit?? Yes! But it'll be fine. Congratulations. My mum says no one ever regrets having a baby. I think she's right.
