Hi

I'm another newbie - hi all.

I'm 14 wks pg. I was pregnant in the cycle before this pregnancy but miscarried at 6 wks (was stunned we got pregnant again so soon. I had wanted to wait 2-3 months to recover).

Despite usually being a fairly happy/ positive person, this 2nd pregnancy (combined with my very recent m/c) is making me really anxious and paranoid. I was convinced I was losing this baby at 6 weeks as all my symptoms disappeared suddenly overnight. Went to local EPU and to cut a long story short, all was fine. Have had 12 week scan a couple of weeks ago and everything was good.

Thing is, I've had full-on all-day-and-all-night sickness. Now in the 14th week it's finally subsiding (hurrah!) but I just don't 'feel' pregnant anymore. My boobs have stopped aching, as has my lower belly and I rarely have twinges or pulls now. Having never made it this far before I don't know what it's normal to feel at this stage? I?m not expecting to feel the baby moving or anything (I know that's weeks off yet) but is this normal? I'm hoping it's just due to hormonal changes between the first and second trimesters. I realise 'every pregnancy's different' (sheeesh, the number of times I've heard that already! ) ? should I just relax and assume all's well?

Hi Felice .... Congratulations on your pregnancy ..
I know it is easy to worry (I had an m/c between my two children) but I wanted to say that it looks like you may be lucky enough to be having a 'text book' pregnancy ....
Sickness can subside from 3 months (mine went on to 17 weeks [grrr]) as the placenta takes over the job of sustaining the pregnancy - up until now your hormones have been keeping it going waiting for the placenta to be big enough. Once the placenta takes over you get a break (ie sickness etc)... and the uterus pulling does seem to wear off when it gets used to being stretched ....
It looks like you are entering the "Blooming Zone" (something I never got to unfortunately - due to morning sickness till 17 weeks, then SPD from 19 weeks, then huge heifer appearance until birth - LOL)
HTH

hello there,
Yes, please relax!!! Easier said than done i know.
Can fully sympathise. It's a a weird time because the earlier symptoms fade and it's as if there is no "proof" that you are actually pregnant. I was exactly the same but at 20wks am starting to relax. Bump is getting bigger and am feeling it move about and kick etc. Once you start feeling it you'll def feel better. I coped in the in between bit by being a regular visitor to my midwife drop in so i could listen to the baby's heartbeat (much to the amusement of my midwife who has me down as a ridiculous ball of anxiety!)If you have access to something similar this may help to reassure you. Have also found yoga extremely beneficial for calming feelings and creating space in the mind.

ive been feeling very nauseous since 6 weeks ..all day and am now 10+4 and since yesterday the symptoms have reduced ..i had a scan at 9+1 that showed all o.k but ive had two previous miscarriages and cant relax through anxiety its all ended again..can symptoms have already started to subside normally and could i be lucky ..i cant remember when sickness subsided with my two children as its 6 yrsago!! anybody else please tell me their sickness started to disappear a tthis stage....

lulumama · 13/01/2007 09:34

second trimester does mean a reduction in nausea, sore boobs and twinges.....you will start blooming very soon ! and showing...try to relax and enjoy feeling well ! it is completely normal to be anxious , especially when you have had a miscarriage......and congratulations on this pregnancy x

bambi06 · 13/01/2007 11:07

thanks lulumama but im wondering whether the reduction in symptoms is a tad bit early as ive not hit 12 weeks yet?

lisjane2 · 13/01/2007 11:17

i can't remember having much sickness in this second pg and always been told sickness is a good thing. i just thought that it was maybe cos i was carrying a different sex but i'm not. Like i'm sure everyone has been saying, every pg is different, you might be one of the lucky ones and not have sickness much.

Hi
I'm in the same situation, as i've had 3 missed m/c and now 9.5 weeks.
I have not had ms to lose so worry and over analyze everything. It's just how it is after m/c unfortunately. Of course I'm worried but had normal scan this week, so should relax.

I guess the biggest loss of symptom from previous m/c was boobs going down. I think at 14 weeks though they will definately feel less sore and m/s should be on the way out.

Felice-when's your next appointment? as wilderbeast said you can hear the heartbeat at midwives and i'm sure you could drop in if really worried.

lulumama · 13/01/2007 11:52

my initial answer was for the OP , sorry Bambi! not ignoring you !

i think that when you have had miscarriages or difficulty conceiving it is really normal and ok to analyse and assess every twinge or lack thereof......some women never ever get sick, and they carry to term....seeing a heartbeat is a really positive sign, and is a strong indication that the pregnancy is going to continue...

if you are really anxious you can speak to the midwife / doc or someone at the EPU if you have a referral there...

for every woman who is sick for 34 weeks, there will be one who isn;t sick at all, some will stop feeling sick at 10 weeks, some at 14 weeks..so it is really impossible to say.....as long as there is no pain & bleeding , it is a good sign...and tomorrow you might well wake up, sick as a dog !

try not to panic and fingers crossed all is well xx

Hi Felice and Bambi
How are we doing at the moment?

I'd like to keep chatting to you both and anyone else, who is worried?

I have another scan this week but already getting worried about it.

bambi06 · 15/01/2007 09:53

hi uki.. im hoping to go and drop in at drs this morning and have a chat with the midwife if shes there and ask if its normal for symptoms to start reducing at this stage..im 11 weeks tomorrow and still cant relax even after having the scan at 9 weeks and seeing a heartbeat as when i had the missed miscarriage the symptoms stoppe dbut cant remeber how far along it was but the baby had died at 9 weeks and didnt show up till the scan at 12 weeks.. yesterday there was very mild nausea but only when i needed to eat so not sure whats happening plus i am so tired now but wasnt a couple of weeks ago so not sure why now! i vaguely remember my symptoms of nausea stopped suddenly with my two kids but i cant remember how many weeks that was and i didnt have ms so badly with my two dc anyway so im hoping its just my body has sorted itself out and as im 12 weeks next tues it could just be naturally wearing off! can you see im just trying to convince myself ..god knows what i`ll be like when i have the nuchal and bloods! how many weeks ar eyou know and when do you have your scan uki?

bambi06 · 15/01/2007 09:58

felice if it helps with my two dc my symptoms once stopped like yousay i did stop feeling pregnant which is o.k and good news in that you arent feeling sick anymore although i know how you fel as youll see from my other postings as im going through it at the moment and its driving me nuts as the pregnancies with my two dc was all happy and relaxed and i didnt even consider anything woul dbe wrong but after ttwo miscarriages i worry constantly..i must drive my dh potty!! i cant relax as i dont have another scan til 30 th jan..anything can happen..just to let you know i`m here to worry with

bambi06 · 15/01/2007 10:03

canu hear a heartbeat with a doppler already at 11 weeks or is it a bit early do you think as i can ask midwife a t surgery to have a listen

Uki · 15/01/2007 10:15

Morning Bambi
Hope your still around, you sound just like me. I can't remember much about my last pg and it was only 2 years ago. wish i had a pg diary and wrote it all down, although that may make us worry more as, i would worry if not the same.
i have a scan this friday, and had one last week on monday. I'm nearly 10 weeks.

You should definately hear heartbeat today, they will hear better if you don't have an empty bladder though.

I may ask the dr. to check me on wed for heartbeat, although they say don't worry if can't hear before 12 weeks. yeah right.

bambi06 · 15/01/2007 16:47

hi there, well no luck at drs as no midwife there today and when i asked when i would receive my booking in letter with midwife they said they should have sen tit by now so looks like i ve been missed out in the system! so theyve go tto chase it up and i said theyd better do it quick as im 12 weeks next week!!well see..well symptoms seem to have come back again although they now only come on when ive eaten so not looking forward to eating at the moment whereas last week i was ravenous and eating didnt make a blind bit of difference!! how come youve had two scans in such a short time uki? maybe i should push for it too...how many kids do you have ? is it just the one? hope youre feeling o.k today but ill be glad when i`ve had the scan and tests on the 30 th.

Uki · 15/01/2007 21:40

Bambi
that's disappointing they wern't around, could you see your gp, they normally have a doppler too.

I'm not sure I will definately get friday's scan, as I need another refferal. This is long.

I WAS MEANT TO HAVE ONE AT HOSPITAL BUT THEY WERE ON HOLIDAYS AND KEPT MAKING THAT DATE LATER AND LATER, i WANTED ONE AT 8 WEEKS, SO USED MY REFFERAL FOR PRIVATE ULTRASOUND,opps shouting sorry, as i was so worried.
anyway still have that scan date and i want it too, i'll see what he dr says, he has been really great and has done lots of tests, etc for me.

I have had 2 missed m/c and one suspected m/c, lots of tests then ds born june 05. then another m/c last Aug not found till 12 weeks.

Had more tests after ds as things can change after babies, and i'm now on asprin and extra calcium daily for boarderline hypertension and blood clotting. My blood pressure has not been this low in over a decade so that's been good news.

I think if your 12 weeks and get your scan next week all will be fine, you've reached the milestone, unless you previously had late m/c's. Do tell dr/midwife you have been worried, they may give you more care/reasuurrance. I've learnt to ask, and now have the best obstetrician and will be in the care of two hospitals, another story

paddyclamp · 16/01/2007 21:48

With DS i hardly had any morning sickness so difficult to pinpoint when it went. Was very nauseous with DD and it definitely started to improve at 10 weeks.

I've never had a miscarriage thankfully but had a threatened one with DS (bled at 6 wks). Was totally paranoid until i could feel him and even then lost count of the number of times i went to the maternity drop in at our hospital cos i hadn't felt him move for a bit! But everything was fine and DS is now almost 3!
