Cervix length 3.5cm at 20 weeks, it's not great but it's adequate ...

Is that ok? I went full term with my son, but then three early miscarriages that has obviously given me The Fear. I had my cervix measured today (not internally) and the measurement was 3.6 cm. I understand anything above 3cm is considered 'ok' but of course when I google I'm coming up with numbers between 4 and 5cm.

I know the cervix length can vary and that it's not as accurate when they measure externally but I'm sitting here having a mini panic and need someone sensible to say soothing things to me (preferably).

Between 3 and 5 is normal, I think?

If you've had early miscarriages, (as in a few weeks in) then that's normally due to chromosome issues or other genetic things which are incompatible with life. Totally different to a premature birth caused by cervical insufficiency... :)

Honestly I'd not even blink at 3.6 cm. Did they say anything about it at the scan?

I'm under consultant care due to recurrent miscarriage. My fibroid was sitting right above it and I have a low lying placenta so she was probably more interested in that than the cervix to be honest.

I guess I just wanted a brilliant tesult to put my mind at rest but the measurement seems the low end of ok to me.

Oh I'm team low lying placenta too :) bastard things! Mines not moved at all so I'm counting down to a planned section in two weeks. Ho hum.

I wouldn't even say 3.6 is the low end of ok, it's fine... Perfectly, boringly, reassuringly ok.

Oh I like boring Smile

Thanks Skipton Flowers Everything crossed for your planned section. I'm hoping that the placenta and fibroid get out the bloody way and my cervix stays strong until the very end. February can't come soon enough Brew

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. May the rest be staggeringly boring and normal, your fibroid behave and your placenta move up ;)
